Dear Forklift Fans, In celebration of the arrival of summer, we're opening our doors earlier and staying open later! Our new summer hours are: Saturday & Sunday: 9am - 6pm Monday - Friday: 10am - 6pm And now open til 7pm on Wednesdays!
Please remember: if you are making a donation or picking up a big bulky item, you'll need to arrive at least a half hour before closing time.
Here's a haiku to celebrate:
sun falls on pale skin
so long covered by thick cloth
and wakes life within
(by blogger joem18b)

Community Forklift has partnered with The Collaborative to support their effort in collecting school supplies for 1,000 of our local children. Contact our outreach team for more info on how to donate these items.
In the spirit of reuse, here are

FORKLIFT FAN SPOTLIGHT:
Randall Cleaver
|
Q: What word describes the science of measuring time?
A: Horology
"Almost all of the materials came from Community Forklift", Cleaver said. "Although I usually become inspired by the objects I see at the store and build on that, I had an idea in mind for this project to use bowling balls for legs. I stopped by Community Forklift first and in the far back corner by the radiators, there they were--a shopping cart with four bowling balls. It was a real godsend."
You can check out more of Randall's work featured on PBS Market Warriors here
and read more about his style in the Washington Post here .

The Route 1 Farmers Market & Bazaar
Opens June 6 - September 27
Every First Friday | 4pm - 8pm
Every Saturday | 8am - 2pm
Located in the dynamic Prince George's County Gateway Arts District at 4100 Rhode Island Avenue in Brentwood, MD. The site, formerly the B&J Auto Lot, is currently owned by the Prince George's County Redevelopment Authority and slated for development by Landex Companies.
Gateway Community Development Corporation (CDC) is spearheading this project as part of the Art Lives Here initiative, a visibility campaign funded by ArtPlace America to Joe's Movement Emporium. The campaign supports artists and area businesses through audience development, strategic branding, and programming in the towns of Brentwood and North Brentwood and the cities of Mount Rainier and Hyattsville in the Gateway Arts District.
Local farms, vendors and artists are invited to participate in our efforts to improve the quality of life for the residential, business and artist communities by activating this space with a community revitalization project that integrates the arts. The market will provide access to fresh produce, family activities for all ages, and handmade products from regional crafters and artists. The market looks to serve the diverse communities of the surrounding towns. All income levels are welcomed.
