HBAV Annual Conference - June 21-23 - Registration Now Open

HBAV Spring Meetings - March 15, 2018
HBAV members will gather in Richmond on March 15th for the Spring HBAV Committee meetings and Board Meeting. The day will feature a lunch with a guest speaker. All HBAV members are welcome to attend the luncheon. HBAV committee's are appointed by our 15 local associations. The following committees will be meeting: Legislative Committee, HBAV Build PAC Trustees, Membership Committee, Associates Committee, Local EO's, Local Presidents, HBAV Education Foundation and HBAV Insurance Agency. HBAV Official House Party scheduled for Friday, April 20, 2018
HBAV is building on NAHB's success of the the official NAHB House Party. HBAV will be hosting a house party at the HBAV Stewart-Lee House on Friday, April 20. 2018 General Assembly Session
The 2018 Virginia General Assembly Session began on Wednesday, January 10, 2018 and is scheduled to adjourn in the coming weeks. HBAV identified 134 pieces of legislation that if passed, would have had a impact on building homes in Virginia. Examples of legislation include:
  • Impact fees on all new homes.
  • An effort to repeal the proffer reform legislation passed in 2016.
  • Moving the Fire Prevention Code away from the current building code process, opening the door for mandatory sprinklers in all new homes.
  • Restricting the use of affiliated vendors

Housing Economic Impact Study Released
The housing industry in Virginia supports more than 314,000 jobs paying more than $14 billion in annual wages, salaries and benefits making it one of the largest contributors to the Virginia economy. Using only direct output as a measure of industry performance, the housing industry is the sixth largest private sector industry and provides approximately 8 percent of Virginia’s jobs, including agricultural and government employment. Since July 1, HBAV staff has attended 113 fundraisers for-pro housing candidates seeking elected office. The HBAV Build-PAC is the vehicle that allows members to financially support the HBAV legislative efforts. Once the General Assembly adjourns, HBAV will continue its focus on supporting pro-housing candidates for elected office.
