Survey Results!

Thank you to everyone who completed the VaOHC survey. We learned much about you and how we're doing.  Of note:
  • Nearly 40% of respondents also work in areas outside of oral health.
  • You feel we exemplify our core values of transparency, partnership, excellence, equity and respect.
  • About half of you told us you are not able to participate in workgroups because of the traveling distance for in-person meetings - so, we're working on ways to make our education and workgroup events more accessible.
  • Most (91%) find this newsletter update valuable.
Please continue to share feedback with us! Send comments to Samantha Dorr .

Please take a moment and support the Coalition's work.

Please check with your HR department to find out if your gift can be matched.

New! Free Online Education

The Virginia Oral Health Coalition is pleased to share three new  educational videos, now available on our website:
  • Oral Health Care During Pregnancy
  • Comprehensive Dental Care for the Pregnant Patient
  • Integrating Oral Health into Patient-Centered Primary Care
Each video has a high-definition recording next to the slides to replicate the in-person experience. We encourage you to watch and share these videos with your staff, clients, and colleagues.

You can find all three videos on our Oral Health and Pregnancy webpage. Thank you to our presenters, Dr. Charles Nathan Webb and Dr. Tiffany Williams - and, thank you to the Dental Trade Alliance Foundation and the Virginia Department of Health's Dental Health Program (through the Perinatal & Infant Oral Health Quality Improvement Grant) for funding support.

How to Talk About Oral Health to Advance Change

A new resource from Frameworks Institute Unlocking the Door to New Thinking: Frames for Advancing Oral Health Reform provides messaging guidance for oral health advocates designed to advance thinking and action to encourage system and policy change. Virginia Oral Health Summit attendees received a glimpse of this information during Dr. Anna Marie Trester's presentation last November.

Health Care Advocacy Resource

As we prepare to elect a new
governor, lieutenant governor, and attorney general this fall, our friends at Voices for Virginia's Children have created an election guide to help grassroots advocates gauge where candidates stand on children's issues. Of note, the 2017 guide features  health insurance talking points inclusive of dental coverage.
