Calling all Green Yogis,
As you know the Yoga Journal Conference in Estes Park, Colorado
(http://www.yjevents.com/ep/) is less then a month away. Last year
Green Yoga worked closely with the conference to to reduce its
environmental impact. We have been so successful in our work with
YJ: eliminating 8,000 plastic water bottles from the conference,
reducing the use of yoga mats that contain PVC, and general
education of participants on greening their studios and
lives.
This year we are so excited to do it all again and we need your
help! Green Yoga has an amazing opportunity for you to volunteer at
the Yoga Journal Conference and go to classes for FREE!! The
attached document has all the details of the program. Spaces are
limited and we are accepting applications starting now. Don't miss
this fabulous opportunity to help Green Yoga and attend a
world-class yoga conference. Shiva Rea will be leading a Trance
Dance to celebrate and benefit our work at the YJ conference. It is
going to be amazing!
Even if you are unable to attend the conference we can still use
your bountiful help. To get our work done at this conference we
need to cover some expenses for the team. Your donation at this
time will help us make this all possible. We are traveling light,
so we don't need much. Please consider donating or volunteering.
Best Wishes.
Cheers, Katharine

Green Yoga
Association (www.greenyoga.org)
Yoga Journal Conference, Estes Park CO.
September 2010
Dear Friend:
Thank you for inquiring about a volunteer position with the Green
Yoga Association for the 2010 Yoga Journal Colorado Conference.
The Green Yoga Volunteer Program is available for qualified
participants who are interested in assisting the non-profit group
Green Yoga. This is not the same program as work exchange for the
conference managers Yoga Journal with Horizon Conferences. This
volunteer opportunity is an excellent way to become involved
with
an environmental group, while participating in a world-class yoga
gathering. There is a nominal fee and a partial rebate is given to
those who satisfactorily perform their duties. This program is not
for those who are seeking a full schedule of yoga.
We are seeking people who wish to be vital members of the
conference fundraising, education, and membership-drive team, while
being able to participate in a limited number of classes. Interest
in this program is always high and we must make decisions about who
will be chosen to participate. To make our selections we need
certain information.
Therefore we are asking you to send us: 1) a resume and 2) a
statement telling us why you are interested in this program. We
would like to know your educational and employment background and
not necessarily your experience with yoga (hint... we know you do
yoga, what makes you a good volunteer for Green Yoga?).
You can send this information by attaching a Word document in an
email to Katharine Turkle at Katharine.turkle@gmail.com.
Below is a complete description of the program.
· Green Yoga Volunteers must be available from 11:00 AM Sunday,
September 19 through 2:00 PM Sunday, September 26, 2010.
· Green Yoga Volunteers are required to work up to thirty "tabling"
hours including: educating conference participants about the
environmental issues Green Yoga is undertaking (literature will be
provided for your use), setting up membership accounts for new
members, collecting money donated to Green Yoga, and having
informed dialogue regarding environmental issues.
· In addition to tabling hours, set-up and closing are required
daily. This will be an additional duty when you have either the
first or last shift. The time needed to perform these duties will
be scheduled into your work hours. You will not be asked to be
there before your scheduled hours or stay later. The most important
duty for opening and closing will be cashing in and out with the
cash box to the Volunteer Coordinator.
· Tear-down at the end of the conference is the last duty for Green
Yoga Volunteers. We always strive to do this as efficiently as
possibly and many hands make light work. On the final day of the
conference you will likely only have a tear-down shift and no
tabling shifts.
· Green Yoga Volunteers can participate in classes when not
working. These classes are taken on a space available basis and
volunteers are not eligible to register for classes. (Note: The
morning sessions of the Anusara Gathering are likely to be sold out
and you should not apply for a Green Yoga Volunteer position if you
are hoping to participate in those classes. Volunteers will be
offered alternative classes on those mornings.)
· Green Yoga Volunteers are charged a $300 fee. Each volunteer's
performance is rated and within four weeks of the end of the
conference, those with a satisfactory rating are issued a $200
rebate. (Note: the $300 fee is considered as a commitment on your
part and will not be refunded should you cancel.)
· As a thank-you for helping Green Yoga you will receive a Green
Yoga membership and a membership gift.
· There will be a mandatory orientation meeting for all volunteers.
At that time tabling duty schedules will be distributed. The
remainder of that day we'll be involved in organizing for the
arrival of conference participants.
· Green Yoga Volunteers are responsible for your own
transportation, meals and housing. You are eligible for dorm-style
housing (four to a room, same gender) at a rate of $57.75 per
night. This includes a meal ticket for three meals per day,
beginning with the evening meal on the day of arrival. Other
accommodations are available either on site or in Estes Park.
· For purposes of communication prior to the conference we require
that each volunteer have an email address. A cell phone is also
helpful during the conference if you have one. The Green Yoga
Volunteer Program is an excellent opportunity to network and
make
friends, while sharing a common goal of providing service to the
yoga community. And, of course, you'll study with some great
teachers. Selections for the Green Yoga Volunteer Program will be
made in the near future. We look forward to receiving information
from you if you are interested in pursuing a position.
Sincerely,
Green Yoga Team- Alan Zucker, Paige Wyatt, and Katharine
Turkle
