The Historic Quincy Business District is proud to be hosting the 2012Illinois Main Street State Conference. The conference will feature educational sessions, keynote speakers, tours and much more. Participants will travel from across the state and surrounding states to participate in our conference. 

With a conference this big, we cannot do it alone. We are asking for your help in making this conference possible.
We are in need of volunteers and looking for your assistance to make sure that every position is filled and that we showcase how great
of a community Quincy is.

Tuesday, September 11, 2012

Conference Set-up

Volunteers will be needed for set-up at

the Oakley-Lindsay. Volunteers will be helping to set-up booths, putting together conference materials such as participant bags, etc, setting up room signage and Registration Information.

 

Volunteers Needed: 4-5

Time: 1:00-4:00pm

 

Amtrak

We are looking for someone to be an official greeter as conference participants arrive via the train. We ask that you ride to the station on the hotel shuttle and help with bags, welcome visitors to Quincy and thank them for participating in the Illinois Main Street Conference.

 

Volunteers Needed: 1 per train

Times: 11:30am-12:30pm (1 volunteer) 10:00-11:00pm (1 volunteer)

Registration & Information

Volunteers will be checking in participants and serving as a general point of information for conference participants. Volunteers will be given a complete list of conference information to answer conference questions, but should have a good knowledge of downtown Quincy restaurants and shops to assist those from out of town in locating what they need.

 

Volunteers Needed: 2 at all times

Times: Registration is open from 10:00am-5:00pm

(Volunteers can work 1 or more hours, but are asked to please sign up for hour long blocks, i.e. 2-3, 2-4, etc).

 

XPLR Tour

Village Vineyard & Winery, Windsong Acres & the Golden Windmill.

Visit the heart of America & see the only US- built windmill operating with its original millstones & gears. Tour the Scale House at scenic Windsong Acres, studio of international artist Shelley Rasche (work includes Universal Studio's The Grinch).

Relax to wine & cheese and enjoy a tour at the new Village Vineyard & Winery.

Volunteers will be on the tour to assist any participant and answer any questions pertaining to the conference or Quincy (volunteers will not be tour guide).

 

Volunteers Needed: 1-2

Time: 11:30am-4:30pm

 

Private Homes Tour

This tour is one that any Main Street volunteer or staff member will not want to miss. Renowned for its outstanding architecture, Quincy's Maine Street is noted for its number of circa 1800 restored homes. 16th & Maine was recognized by National Geographic as one of the ten most architecturally significant corners in the United States.

The Private Home Tours program is a unique customized group tour opportunity. The homes are within walking distance of one another with tours given by the homeowners themselves. While normal tours are limited to just 3 homes, our tour will cover multiple homes.

Volunteers will be on the tour to assist any participant and answer any questions pertaining to the conference or Quincy (volunteers will not be tour guide).

 

Volunteers: 1-2

Time: 1:00-4:00pm

Registration & Information

Session Volunteers

Volunteers are needed during the sessions to help direct people to the appropriate rooms, assist the presenters with AV needs, introduce the speaker and collect evaluation forms at the end of each session.

 

Volunteers Needed: 3 per breakout session (1 per room)

Opening Plenary: 8:30-10:00am

Breakout 1: 10:00-11:30am

Breakout 2: 1:00-2:30pm

Breakout 3: 2:30-4:00pm

 

EXPO Hall Reception

Volunteers are needed during the reception to assist participants in finding exhibitors, verifying the passports, and answering questions.

 

Volunteers Needed: 2

Time: 3:30-5:00pm

 

Awards Dinner Set-up

Volunteers are needed to set-up the Awards Dinner which will be held at Winters West Wing (O'Griff's). Volunteers will be placing programs, centerpieces, setting up AV equipment and doing any last-minute touches to make the event a success.

 

Volunteers Needed: 2

Time: 3:30-4:30pm

 

Awards Dinner

Thursday evening will be the annual Awards Dinner for Illinois Main Street. Volunteers are needed to check-in participants and give them the appropriate meal indicator. Volunteers will be invited to join us for dinner.

Time: 4:30-6:00pm (Dinner following)

Blues in the District

The final Blues in the District concert for the season will also take place on Friday, September 14, 2012. Due to the conference and timing, additional volunteers are needed to make sure that everything is set-up and in place for the concert.

Volunteers will be setting up tents, décor, signage, etc.

Time: 1:00-4:30pm
