Adam McManus overview

Cynthia Brehm is my hands-down pick in District 8 for the San Antonio City Council!  Not only does she share my conservative political ideology, but her unashamed faith in Jesus Christ guides her every thought, word and deed.

Cynthia Brehm's bio

Cynthia is a Christian, a retired Army wife, a grandmother, a community activist, and a public servant.

Despite the fact that she grew up attending church in Amarillo, Texas as one of 10 children, Cynthia had not yet begun a relationship with God.  When she was 21, she was working as a clerk for Dustin's Department Store in Canadian, Texas where she met a Jay and Janie Leek, the managers of the store.

"They were lovable, peaceful, kind, and, I later learned, full of the Spirit of God," recalls Cynthia. "I could see the light in their lives. No one had really sat me down and explained the Christian message of the offer of forgiveness of our sins through Jesus Christ.  They had me begin reading the book of Mathew."

After careful study and many questions later, she finally understood.  She wanted to get right with God.

She repented of her sins and was baptized soon afterwards.

Cynthia graduated from the University of Hawaii Magna Cume Laude, and from St Mary's University with a Master's in Public Administration, as a Distinguished Graduate.

She is a certified Master Trainer for the U.S. Army, which allows her to teach military doctrine worldwide.

Cynthia's roots are deep in Texas history.

Cynthia Brehm's roots run deep in Texas.

Cynthia is a descendant of the Canary Islanders who settled San Antonio in 1731.

In fact, her ten-times grandfather, Juan Leal Goraz, was the first mayor of San Antonio!

Some people tell her in some ways she favors him and that her service to humanity stems from him.

Professionally, her background is in marketing and advertising.

Throughout her 30-year career, she received numerous awards for her efforts as a marketing consultant. She has a stellar performance record.

She oversaw millions of dollars on a regional level across the state of Texas, as well as nationally. She had to negotiate contracts, balance and reconcile accounts with businesses all related to advertising.

When Cynthia married, she retired from her career to serve alongside her husband Norm, who is currently deployed, as they served our country together.

Since 1985, she has been involved with countless charities that helped to benefit the needy within the military and the community.

As an Army wife, she held many critical executive board member positions from President, First Vice President, Vice President, Special Events Coordinator, Community Liaison, and Board of Director to general member just to name a few.

In 1998, she helped establish a 501-3C charity on a federal installation, known as "The Band of Angels" at Fort Hood, Texas for the Fisher House, which is like a Ronald McDonald House.

Our local "Soldier's Angels" off Perrin Beitel and Loop 410 was modeled after her charity and has evolved even much more here in San Antonio.

She helped establish another charity fundraiser at Fort Knox, Kentucky, "Run for the Red." It was a 5K run for the American Red Cross.

The most successful charity she established was The Celebrity Golf Scramble at Fort Hood. To this day it continues to be the single largest fundraiser in the history of Fort Hood.

Cynthia has helped to raise significant money for worthwhile charities.

All these charity fundraisers are still in existence to this day and continue to serve both the military and local communities.

Cynthia has volunteered with the Fort Sam Houston Spouses Club, The Fort Sam Houston Thrift Shop, The Fisher House at Fort Sam Houston,

the SA300 Tricentennial, the UpWords Bookstore at her church Oak Hills Crown Ridge led by her pastor Max Lucado.

Cynthia Brehm and her husband are members of Oak Hills Church
led by their pastor Max Lucado.

Since 1989, she has volunteered her time and effort in helping politicians get elected to office by phone banking,

door knocking, posting signage, and donating necessary funds.  In addition, Cynthia worked as a deputy registrar, precinct chairman, presiding judge, alternate judge, District 8 Government Committee Member, and hosted Meet and Greets.

Cynthia Brehm has dedicated her life to being a force for good
and making a difference in the community.

Cynthia Brehm on Transparency and Accountability

San Antonians want transparency and accountability in city government. They cite this as the most critical issue facing the city council.

As you know, our tax dollars are often misused.

Too much of our precious San Antonio tax money is being wasted.

As your City Council representative for District 8, Cynthia will ensure that insiders are not getting rich on our tax dollars.

Cynthia Brehm on Transportation

With District 8's population growing by 35% annually, traffic and  mobility are key issues.

San Antonio's traffic congestion continues to grow.

Couple that with the U.S. Census Bureau's estimate of 152 people moving here daily, it only adds to the congestion and headache of getting to and from our destinations.

As your City Council representative from District 8, Cynthia will be focused on mobility strategies to subvert our ever-growing population.

To alleviate congestion, Cynthia has two ideas.

1.  Pass an ordinance that says that all 18-wheeler trucks, trailers, buses, RVs, and 5th wheels have to remain in the right lane.

2.  When there is an accident, the First Responders will be required to obscure the accident with a 7-foot high black tarp to prohibit the gawking and rubbernecking, an idea that has worked like a charm in London, England since 1995.

Plus, Cynthia earned a B+ rating from Texans Uniting for Reform and Freedom which specializes in transportation issues.  That was the highest grade among the District 8 candidates.

Cynthia Brehm on Public Safety

The I-10 and 1604 area is the number one hot spot in San Antonio for property crime.

Cynthia Brehm will address the property crime in the I-10 and Loop 1604 area.

We must work together with law enforcement and as neighbors to overcome this issue that threatens our safety.

As your City Council representative from District 8, Cynthia will work hard to reduce the crime rate in our district.  She will work to make sure the necessary measures are taken to protect our neighborhoods so our families are safe.

She has two ideas.

1. The number one thing you can do to reduce crime is to add more lighting.  It will cut the crime rate by 25%.  Criminals rarely commit crime in the light.

2.  We need to revisit the Neighborhood Watch program where everyone watches out for each other. You can report a crime you've witnessed anonymously.

Cynthia Brehm on Water Resources

With our growing population, our future water resources are critical to our sustainability.

As San Antonio grows, the need for water sustainability skyrockets.

As your City Council representative from District 8, Cynthia will ensure our investments can match the demand in the future, and that our tax dollars are not misspent.

Cynthia has two ideas.

1.  She believes that we need to get out of the Vista Ridge Water Project where we are getting water from Caldwell County 143 miles away.  It's only a four-square mile area.  The millions of dollars that we are investing in it is a waste of money.  Part of where they are wanting to drill is very shallow.   It will dry up very quickly.  Then, some of the people of Caldwell County themselves will be without water.

2.  She believes that we need to focus on the Aqua Storage Recovery Unit in southwest Bexar County which releases water any time there is drought.  It's more cost effective and no pipeline required.

Cynthia Brehm on Ethics Reformation

The City Charter and Ethics Code must clearly address the consequences for those that choose to abuse his or her office because of unethical behavior, by punishing him or her when the law is broken.

Cynthia Brehm is committed to reforming the San Antonio Ethics Code with
clear consequences for unethical behavior of a public official.

The San Antonio City Council should not be creating ordinances to absolve themselves of violations either.     If you want justice, then vote for Cynthia Brehm during Early Voting or on Election Day on Saturday May 6th.
