2016 AWQ National Competition Winners

Congratulations to the 200 high school students who participated Saturday at the  Carlos and Malú Alvarez Academic WorldQuest  2016 National Competition! A thrilling tie-breaker round and sudden death round of questions were necessary to determine this year's winning team: Keystone School of San Antonio, Texas. A record 49 teams, including Hayah International Academy from Cairo, Egypt, competed at the National Press Club in Washington, DC. Read the WACA press release

Tomorrow: Cover to Cover with Marc Lynch

Cover to Cover  in April will present author Marc Lynch  on his new book, The New Arab Wars: Uprisings and Anarchy in the Middle East on Tuesday , April 26, at 2:00-2:30 PM ET




Professor Lynch teaches political science and international affairs at George Washington University. From 2009-2015 he served as director of the Institute for Middle East Studies. He is the founder and director of the Project on Middle East Political Science. He is also a non-resident senior associate at the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace, and a contributing editor at the Monkey Cage blog for the Washington Post. He is the co-director of the Blogs and Bullets project at the United States Institute of Peace (full bio).

Georgia PM to Speak at USIP
 
Prime Minister Giorgi Kvirikashvili of Georgia will speak at the United States Institute of Peace on Tues., April 26, 2:30 - 3:30 PM, on relations with the U.S. and Georgia's importance as an anchor for regional prosperity. PM Kvirikashvili will address his country's efforts toward economic and democratic progress and peace as vital sources of stability in the volatile region.  Details  
5th Annual Atlanta Summit on Global Health
 
The World Affairs Council of Atlanta , CARE USA , and the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS)  will present the 2016 Atlanta Summit on Global Health and Refugees on Monday, May 2 . The daylong program will examine the severe effects wars have had on health conditions in Syria, other parts of the Middle East, Africa, and Southeast Asia. 

This is the fifth year the three organizations have held the global health summit, which previously has focused on water, food, Africa, and Latin America.
