World Affairs Council, Washington DC Foreign Policy Panel Series
"Thaw in US - Cuba Relations: What's Next?"

The World Affairs Council of Washington, DC will be hosting a foreign policy panel event on Tuesday, July 21.

On April 11th, 2015 President Obama and Raul Castro met at the Summit of the Americas in Panama, marking the first meeting between United States and Cuban heads of states since the countries severed ties in 1961. On July 1 the US and Cuba announced the reopening of their respective embassies in Washington and Havana for the first time in half a century. While diplomatic relations are renewed, what is the likelihood the trade embargo on Cuba will be lifted by Congress? What can be expected of a thawing in relations? Is the thaw positive for the United States and Cuba?
