Welcome to our June 2017 Newsletter

Since the 26th of May, at Serangan Bay in Bali, all the team have been hard at work on the yearly maintenance period. Other than sanding and painting, revision of the motors and generators, several improvements and new equipment have been brought to WAOW to optimise the comfort. Discover in images some of the work progress.
In addition in this newsletter, you will find our offers "Last Minute" and "Early Booking" for Komodo in 2017 and 2018, our dive show schedule for the coming season, a special offer to dive the pristine reefs of Alor in next September, plus, the multiple attractions of West Papua..
Enjoy the read.

ALOR - Special Offer

All of the photographers agree, and say: the region of  Alor and Pantar are a true paradise for lovers of underwater biodiversity, due to the large quantity of dives where it is found.

The reefs are beautiful and covered with fixed fauna in abundance, and patrolled by a myriad of antheas, surgeon fish and fusiliers. Place your mask closer to the reef and the spectacle continues: clown fish, nudibranchs, bobtail squid, ghost pipe fish, rhinopias and orangutan crabs are more easily visible than most other places. Here also the sensation of exclusivity is present. Few boats operate in this area and you will often be the only visitors when going ashore to the villages of traditional fishermen.

Take advantage, from today, of a
price reduction   of USD 750 / CHF 750 / EUR 700
and reserve your "  Gems of Alor" cruise with us
from 15th to 25th September 2017.

"Hard at Work"

WAOW is a beautiful sailing vessel, spacious, comfortable and with unanimously appreciated service. Due to this we are very fortunate to have a number of "repeater" clients well above normal. The attendance record is held by one couple who have been onboard, in the Master Cabin, 11 times in 5 years. These type of clients encourage us to reduce our marketing efforts and transfer these savings to the performance and maintenance of our equipment, and, continuing to optimize and raise the level of our service.

Here are a few illustrations in photo form with comments.

- The Indonesian iron wood darkens when exposed to the sunlight and loses some of its beautiful original orange-brown colour. After 5 years of sunbaking we will sand right back to the original colour and be ready for the next 5 years. Same sanding back of the different teak decks as well.

- The complete revision of the main engines guaranteeing another 5 years of perfect service for the security and success of the cruises.

- The construction of a cold room allowing us to carry more fresh produce and reduce the amount of electricity used.

- A new set of sails.

- A new boarding ladder to replace the one that was damaged by a rogue wave and temporarily repaired. Our legendary carpenter, Aliman, repaired the damage really well and saw out the season, but it's now time to make a new one for the years ahead.

The dry dock lift will happen in the coming days for the anti-fouling and painting. We will let you see these impressive photos in the next newsletter.

Marvelous West Papua

Also known as "Papua Barat" in local language, this area of West Papua is a formidable sanctuary for the immense terrestrial and under-water biodiversity, which has created the reputation of this part of Indonesia.
Even though getting there is a substantial voyage, your amazement will be almost permanent and without equal. WAOW and her team take you on a discovery of several regions, all the while optimising the quality of the diving and favourable weather, and, proposing complete and original itineraries.

Raja Ampat - The Four Kings:  One of the classics, while remaining true to form. 11 nights to combine the sites of Cape Kri, Wayag, Aljui, Airborek, Kawe, Penemu and finally Misool. Multitudes of coral, manta rays, carpet sharks and a macro-fauna to die for.
Several land excursions amongst the karstic labyrinth of the archipelago will immerse you into the atmosphere of these Papuan Islands.

Cenderawasih Bay - Festival of Whale Sharks: From Biak to Manokwari, this cruise of 10 nights allows you to dive in the company of the largest fish in the world, but also to explore WWII Japanese wrecks and "sky dive" along the beautiful drop offs. Cherry on the cake: A land excursion to see the "Birds of Paradise" in their natural habitat.

Raja Ampat and Triton Bay: Triton Bay is a paradise for scientists in search of rare species. The profusion of life is seen in the 1800 species (24 endemic) that have been documented. The corals and sponges guarantee dives full of colour. Our cruise allows you to combine this spot with Misool, Tanjung Papisoi and the South of Raja Ampat. A must!

Moluccas and West Papua: A perfect combination between the muck dives in the bays of Ambon and Banda Neira, the vertical drop offs (patrolled by pelagics) of the Koon Islands and finally Triton Bay. A density of life and colour that can rarely be seen. Don't miss the visit to Banda Neira (volcano, colonial forts, nutmeg plantation) and our excursion thru the jungle not far from Kaimana to see the tree kangaroos and refresh in a remote waterfall.

"
The entire experience on the WAOW was exceptional in every way. All of the staff/crew made so much effort at all times to be friendly, welcoming and helpful. I really felt at home and can't wait to come back to explore new itineraries. Guislain & Lorine were outstanding cruise directors, taking care at all times that we were having the best experience, both spending time with us to share experience, give us extra info, make us comfortable and welcome. Everyone provided a memorable 5 star experience and I cannot say thank you enough. I am sad to be leaving and excited to return for more WAOW adventures
"
