FIELD DAY!

We couldn't have asked for nicer weather! Thank you to all the volunteers and to the parents who came out to cheer the kids on. It was a great day!

PRINCIPAL LETTER

Last week, I had a chance to visit with Elizabeth Davis, our new principal. I think World Compass Academy is in good hands! I look forward to hearing much about the great things students will be accomplishing in the future. Go Cougars!

Who is known as the hardest working man in show business?
  1. Elvis Presley
  2. Frank Sinatra
  3. James Brown
  4. Mike Ballard
Yes, the answer is James Brown. However, I suggest that our very own Mike Ballard is now ready to assume the mantle. We have been fortunate to have Mike take on so many performances over the past three weeks. The concerts started with second and third graders several weeks ago and will end with a kindergarten concert and graduation next week. In between, Mike had the fourth and fifth graders perform. Tonight our first and second grade choir, the third through fifth grade choir, the orchestra, and percussion ensemble will have a chance to share their talents and hard work. Don't miss this concert!

I'm also excited to hear our preschool and kindergarten beginning violin students. I know some of the tunes will require a little imagination, but everyone starts somewhere! Thanks for giving our students this opportunity, Amanda Cox! And let's not forget Ms. Garcia who has helped our youngest students learn and explore the art of dance. Bravo!

Although Amanda and Edie are doing the actual teaching, don't forget the person responsible for organizing many activities at the school...Ms. Shana Coffelt. We love you, Shana!  If you value the performing and visual arts, then WCA is the place for you.

A big shout out to Mr. Comstock and all the volunteers for organizing our first Field Day. I'm sure the kids will have a fantastic time!

Many have commented to me that the year has gone by so quickly. I agree! I think this is a testament to how hard everyone has worked and the joy that occurs when you come to school each day with enthusiasm. Thanks to all the WCA students, staff, and parents for making this first year a memorable one.

Jim

2016-17 DRESS CODE/UNIFORM UPDATES

The  Dress Code has been updated for next year! Please take some time to read through the information so that you can be prepared. Please note that preschool students are not required to wear uniforms.

Informal (everyday) dress code updates at a glance:
  • Students may now also wear any solid colored oxford shirt on informal (everyday)
    uniform days.
  • Skirt/skort/polo dress/shorts length is now no more than 2 inches above the knee.
  • Heel height is less than 1 inch.
We have a new  formal uniform supplier... Educational Outfitters! They are a local supplier, located on the corner of University and County Line Road in Centennial. We listened to parent feedback and looked for better quality, thicker fabric, softer sweaters, and a local store where
you can try on for size and exchange easily. They work with many charter schools in the Denver metro area.

Look for an informational flyer coming home with your student. You may also view the flyer here. The formal uniform information will also be available in the store and online

Formal uniform updates at a glance:
  • Girls may wear the 10 pleat skirt or jumper in our blue/red plaid (9A) for formal
    uniform day.
  • Girls may wear a white oxford (with logo) or peter pan blouse (with logo) with the 10 pleat skirt. (It needs to stay tucked in; the oxford shirt is longer).
  • Girls must wear the peter pan blouse under the jumper. Girls may not wear the oxford shirt under the jumper.
  • The girls' sweater is softer and more refined.
Skirts, jumpers, etc. bought from Educational Outfitters comply with the updated length requirement. They are having a 20% off sale right now until the end of May. This is their biggest sale of the year!

Students may still wear their French Toast items in 2016-17 as long as they conform to the updated Dress Code (scooter no more than 2 inches above the knee, peter pan shirt stays tucked in, etc).

If you have any questions, please call the school office at 303-814-5200. Thank you!
