All-Stars Take On MNRG This Weekend
June 15, 2012 - The WCR All-Stars are skating all the way to St. Paul, Minn., this Saturday, June 16 to defend their title against the Minnesota RollerGirls All-Stars in the Midsummer Mele. Ranked #2 in the WFTDA’s North Central Region, MNRG have made incredible strides in the past few years to show the world that they are true roller derby competitors. Travel with us this weekend to see your #1 North Central Region All-Stars keep those RollerGirls in their place!
If you can't make it that far north this weekend, come party with us on the Northside! We will be hosting a viewing party at Christina's Place, located at 3759 N. Kedzie. Join us for $2 PBR and Guinness specials, along with some great food options to keep you full and happy while you cheer the All-Stars to victory.
Feeling anti-social? Have a suspicious rash? It’s okay, we forgive you. You can watch all the action live here, courtesy of MNRG, from the safety of your bedroom.
Still not convinced? Time-travel with us to the year 2037 and hear how the bout went down straight from the mouths of the retired MNRG skaters.
WCR Volunteer Featured in New Book
League nurse Mama Vendetta, known to her nursing colleagues as Carolyn Jones, will be one of 75 nurses featured in The American Nurse book, part of The American Nurse Project. Mama’s dedication to the WCR skaters has gone unparalleled in her seven years as an integral part of our organization. We are so proud to have her as a part of of the Windy City Rollers and even happier for her to receive this honor.
Want to be part of the action? This league could not operate without the help of all of its Volunteer and Support staff. From medics to photographers to track set-up personnel, every member of the Windy City Rollers volunteers his/her time to make all of our bouts run smoothly. Email volunteer@windycityrollers.com to find out how you can help.
All-Stars Back in Town July 14
Mark your calendars for the Welcome Home party we’re throwing on July 14 for the All-Stars and Second Wind. They haven’t played a home bout since March, and we figured it’s about time to bring the big knock-downs and high-scoring jams back to the UIC Pavilion. Don’t miss a second of this action-packed night with the #2 nationally ranked All-Stars and the exceptionally talented Second Wind. The louder you cheer, the faster they skate!
