Human Rights Film Series - October 19th
The WCU in Philadelphia Human Rights Film Series presents
American Violet
Thursday, October 19, 2017 from 5:30 PM to 8:30 PM -- Concourse Level (Room TBA)
Join us for the first film in a series of screenings and discussions of human rights at the intersection of criminal justice, social work, and community health. The first film,
American Violet, is about a low-income single mother living in a small town in Texas, who has been accused of drug offenses despite her protests that she has not been involved in any drug related activity. Attendees will consider the human rights implications of the film's content and learn how interdisciplinary knowledge might contribute to generating culturally-competent service plans for individuals, groups, and communities.
The event is free and open to all WCU Students. Food will be provided.
Two additional films will be scheduled in the spring. For more information, please contact Dr. Christina Chiarelli-Helminiak at
CChiarelli-Helminiak@wcupa.edu or Benjamin Morgan at
BMorgan@wcupa.edu. Sponsored by the Office of Social Equity, the Department of Graduate Social Work, and the Writing Center.
