WDIY Operations Director Neil Hever Celebrates 20 Years at WDIY

This month marks 20 years since WDIY's Operations Director Neil Hever began as a staff member at WDIY. In March of 1997, Neil was officially hired as the station's Program Director but his work to help make WDIY a reality began over a decade before that.

In 1981, while attending Muhlenberg College, Neil and another community member joined together to form the first organized group of community radio volunteers in the Lehigh Valley. The group began incorporation meetings in 1984 and spent the next decade building support for a new community-based station. Their work came to fruition when WDIY went on the air in 1995.

WDIY would not be here without Neil's decades of dedication as well as the work he continues to do everyday. Congratulations on this milestone, Neil, and thank you for your service to WDIY.

BERKS JAZZ FEST KICK-OFF PERFORMANCE! Expansions: The Dave Liebman Group will feature for all their performances in 2017, music written and played by John Coltrane celebrating the 90th year of his birth and 50th since his passing. The material will cover the three periods of his extraordinary and short career (twelve years) beginning with his tenure as a sideman in the Miles Davis Group; through the repertoire of the Classic Quartet (Tyner, Jones and Garrison); concluding with pieces from the late "free" jazz period. Coltrane's body of work represents a pinnacle of achievement in the 20th century exerting an influence that goes beyond jazz both spiritually and musically. Specifically for Liebman, it was seeing Coltrane live on many occasions in New York City that inspired him to pursue this music.
