Buying and Selling Women Owned
The Social Impact of Buying from Women

Elizabeth A. Vazquez in Philanthropy Impact magazine: Many impact investors are identifying creative new ways to invest in women's economic empowerment by investing in social enterprises owned by women. This movement has huge potential for impact because when women's enterprises grow, the women create jobs and tend to invest back into their families and communities.

In addition to traditional ways of thinking about impact investing, a more broad and immediate impact could be realized if people and organizations simply made a conscious decision to buy more products and services from women suppliers. We all make purchases every day.

Women: How to Let the World Know about the Businesses You Own

Susan Solovic in BlogHerI know that there is a significant group of buyers who like to support small businesses owned and managed by women, but in addition to that, companies are increasingly on the lookout for women-owned sources of supplies. Qualifying for the official Women Owned Logo can be the first step to becoming a qualified supplier for a wide range of larger industries.

I think our society in general has become more sensitive to supporting new groups as they begin to compete in commerce. Also, Millennials are noted for their sensitivity to social awareness and making it a priority in their lives. If this holds up as they grow older, I believe that something like being officially designated a women-owned business will be even more valuable.

The bottom line is that if you qualify for the Woman Owned Logo, going through the application process could be a very smart business decision.

Success Story
Sarah Davis | Owner of Skills4Stem Ltd. | United Kingdom

In August 2015, WEConnect International raffled off two free tickets to the 2015 Global WIL Economic Forum in Abu Dhabi among interested certified women's business enterprises. Sarah Davis - Owner of Skills4Stem Ltd., a UK-based Global Skills and Succession Planning Consultancy with a focus within Science Technology, Engineering and Maths sectors - jumped at the opportunity, and luckily for her, her name was drawn at random for a slot.

Attending the conference has paid off well for Sarah and her team. Excellence Training recently agreed to be an Agent for Skills4Stem in Dubai, and Sarah is hoping to leverage new connections with Naseba, Youshala, and the UAE Ministry of Education, as well.
