GENTLE VINYASA FLOW AT WAYNE CHURCH!
Join us Thursday evenings at 6:30pm in Fellowship Hall, (lower level) for a gentle vinyasa flow class led by Karen Bruno. All are welcome to come and be guided through 60 minutes of gentle vinyasa flow followed by a short meditation in relaxing poses. This is a great class for students looking for a more gentle experience, new to yoga, or for those with injuries or limitations for ages 18 and up. Please bring your own mat, if possible. Classes will continue every Thursday evening through June 14. Donation is $5 per class, plus a food item for the food pantry. All proceeds go to the Wayne Church Food Pantry.
A.C.T.S. (Adult Connection Time on Sundays)
CONNECT with other adults on Sunday mornings before our 10:30 service! We are currently offering sessions on meditation with member Karen Bruno to develop our own ability to experience the peace and love of the Holy Spirit through meditation. In his April 8 message, Pastor Tom talked about a practice John Wesley called "spiritual respiration," in which we inhale the breath of God and exhale His love and service toward others. A meditation practice can help you develop this intentional breathing in and exhaling of God's breath.

Each independent session is open to all and begins with a breathing exercise followed by a prayer-based meditation, concluding with a group discussion. There is no requirement to commit to all sessions; come to any or all as your interest/schedule dictate! Our weekly focus will be on May 13th - Mother’s Day Prayer and May 20th - Prayer for our Confirmation Class.

ADULT CONNECTION time on Sundays (“ACTS”) is held at 9:15am in “The Upper Room” on the 2nd floor across from the Choir room. Please join when you can!
LADIES' SPRING POTLUCK IS NEXT FRIDAY, MAY 18 @ 7PM!
Please plan to attend our annual Spring Potluck! We always enjoy a fun night of fellowship and delicious food! Take some time to catch up with friends and strengthen connections with your church family. Please plan to bring an appetizer, side dish or main dish. Michele will provide dessert and drinks. We will begin around 7 pm, but please feel free to stop by anytime depending on your plans. Please check our Instant Church directory for Michele’s address and/or email questions and RSVPs to Michele directly.
LADIES’ NEXT BOOK SELECTION!
All ladies of the church are invited to include The Lacuna by Barbara Kingsolver as part of their summer reading. We will get together in late August to discuss. There are used copies available in the Parlor. Get your summer reading now!

About the book: Kingsolver's ambitious new novel, her first after the The Poisonwood Bible , focuses on Harrison William Shepherd, the product of a divorced American father and a Mexican mother. After getting kicked out of his American military academy, Harrison spends his formative years in Mexico in the 1930s in the household of Diego Rivera; his wife, Frida Kahlo; and their houseguest, Leon Trotsky, who is hiding from Soviet assassins. After Trotsky is assassinated, Harrison returns to the U.S., settling down in Asheville, N.C., where he becomes an author of historical potboilers (e.g., Vassals of Majesty ) and is later investigated as a possible subversive. Narrated in the form of letters, diary entries and newspaper clippings, the novel takes a while to get going, but once it does, it achieves a rare dramatic power that reaches its emotional peak when Harrison wittily and eloquently defends himself before the House Un-American Activities Committee (on the panel is a young Dick Nixon). Employed by the American imagination, is how one character describes Harrison, a term that could apply equally to Kingsolver as she masterfully resurrects a dark period in American history with the assured hand of a true literary artist.

GRANTS FOR HIGHER EDUCATION AVAILABLE!
Grants are available to assist in defraying higher education costs through the Conference! The Eastern Pennsylvania Conference of the United Methodist Church will be accepting grant applications to assist worthy individuals with defraying the cost of higher education for the 2018-2019 school year. All applications received in the Conference Office (between and including) April 30 to May 21 will be considered for a grant. Like last year, all applications will be considered. Unless there is some disqualification, grant recipients will be randomly selected.  It is important that this information be provided to church members who plan to attend an institution of higher learning in the fall of 2018. Please communicate this grant opportunity to your congregation as soon as possible. If you have questions, please contact the Education Society Chairperson, Al Adey.
FIRST QUARTER FINANCE UPDATE!
First quarter revenue was $235,000 versus first quarter expenses of $196,000.  Consistent with prior years, revenue exceeded expenses in the first quarter due to advanced payments of 2018 pledges.  Expenses were in-line with expectations with the exception of higher utility costs due to weather.  For the time being, the $39,000 first quarter surplus is being used to replenish reserves following a decline in 2017 due to the sanctuary renewal costs and operating deficit. Finally, we are in search of a volunteer with a finance background that is willing to work with church staff in developing financial reports. Please contact Pastor Tom if you have interest.
