NEW SERMON SERIES STARTS THIS SUNDAY, AUGUST 5TH!
WHAT HAPPENS WHEN WE DIE?
Most of us agree that the Bible has a lot to say about the afterlife; death and heaven are each mentioned hundreds of times in the scriptures. Why then, do we have so many questions about what happens to us when we die? Is heaven real? Who goes to heaven? Will we be reunited with our loved ones? What about hell, does it exist? Is there a Judgment Day? Invite a friend and join us for four Sundays in August as we seek biblical answers to our questions about death and eternal life.

PONDERING THE PARABLES BIBLE STUDY CONTINUES AUGUST 16!
REFLECTING ON JESUS’ STORIES ON FAITH

When temperatures soar and schedules slow, it's a great time to draw closer to the Lord through studying His Word. Please join Virginia Gardiner on  alternating Thursday evenings from 7-8:30 during August  to focus on some of Jesus' foundational parables. Upcoming dates for the study are  August 16, and 30 .  Come to one or as many as you can, and enjoy growing your faith among friends. We'll gather at Virginia's house  (see church directory), and weather permitting, will hang out on the deck, so dress for the garden! Light snacks and drinks will be available for anyone coming straight from work. If you'd like to prepare for the studies in advance, here are the parables we'll be studying each session:

8/16: Pharisee and Tax Collector (Luke 18:9-14)
Nobleman and the Pounds (Luke 19:11-26)
8/30: Wheat and Tares (Matthew 13:24-30)
      The Two Foundations (Matthew 7:24-27)

A WAYNE CHURCH FAMILY NEEDS MEALS!
Our Meals and Support Ministry team is reaching out to ask for help in supporting one of our church families. Please consider assisting Kathleen and Shawn Seeley, who are taking care of their daughter, Alisha, as she recovers from major surgery and ongoing treatment that will be a tough hill to climb. They are also helping supporting their gorgeous little granddaughter, Sophia, as her mom recovers. We are aiming to help provide meals over the next 4 weeks, and as both Kathleen and Shawn work outside of the home, any help that we can give will be wonderful. The dates listed are to provide the widest range of options for those providing meals. (it’s not intended to fill every night, every week).

For members who find cooking and delivering a meal is not convenient, an alternative option is to send a gift card for a grocery store (to pick up ready-made food if they wish) or to order take out from a local restaurant. Justine’s Cuisine (caterer in Broomall) is also an option where you can pick up meals on a Wednesday. Their number is 610-355-2253. Please click below to sign up for any date(s) that you are able to assist. In addition, please hold Alisha, her family and her medical team in prayer. Bless you as you help care for those in our church family. If you have any questions please contact Kimm Ebersole or Jenny Wannenburg.

Many thanks!

THE FOOD PANTRY NEEDS YOUR HELP!
VOLUNTEERS NEEDED! The Food Pantry Bread Pick Up team is looking for volunteers to round out the schedule for Panera pick ups. Duties include (about once a month) a Tuesday 9pm bread pickup at the Wayne Panera bread on Lancaster Avenue and making sure it's in the church lobby by 8:45am Wednesday morning for food pantry distribution. Arrangements can be made for late Tuesday or early Wednesday drop off at the church. Please consider serving this longstanding church ministry. Any questions or responses can be directed to Bob King.

We are also always looking for volunteers who would be willing to help Wednesdays and Thursdays, from 9am – to 1pm. You can even sign-up for a half-shift (9-11am or 11am-1pm)! Duties entail handing out Food Pantry bags and greeting visitors. (You can bring a book, tablet, or laptop to pass the time!) This is a vital ministry! Our volunteers are the face of our church to those who are in need, and your friendly face can go a long way toward making our recipients feel comfortable and welcome!

WANT TO DONATE? We are always in need of peanut butter, cereal, pasta and sauce.

"THE WELL" COMING SOON!!
Our church parlor has always been one of our central gathering spaces and the threshold where many people first encounter Wayne Church’s welcoming ministry.   This area provides opportunities for our members and guests to connect with each other more informally, enjoy a cup of coffee or tea, build relationships, or just sit and relax in God’s house.   Led by our Adult Connections Team, and supported by our Trustees and Leadership Council, it has been decided that this space is due for updating.   It will be closed for the rest of the summer while it transitions into “The Well” which will open just after Labor Day. As many of you may know, during Biblical times, the well is where everyone routinely gathered for news, friendship and sharing. We believe a new name and a new look will encourage that kind of relational activity and the connectedness we desire for years to come.   Nearly half of the funds needed to complete this project have already been raised.   If you would like to support this project please make your donation to Wayne UMC and designate “The Well” on your gift.

QUARTERLY UPDATE!
For the first half of 2018, revenue was $424,000 versus first half expenses of $421,000. Year over year, revenues increased 8% driven by an increase in offering. Expenses increased 4% year over year and were slightly above budget due primarily to front loaded property expenses in the first six months of 2018. Reserves remain below the historical target due to the 2017 operating deficit and investment in the sanctuary renewal.
