WORSHIP THIS SUNDAY
@ 9:15 AM (contemporary praise, SANCTUARY)
@ 10:30 AM (blended traditional, sanctuary)
A MESSAGE FROM PASTOR TOM...

Dear Wayne Family,
This weekend we begin a new sermon series looking at Paul’s first letter to the Corinthians. Paul arrived at Corinth in A.D. 50 and stayed eighteen months planting a new church before leaving for Ephesus. After his departure, elders from the church visited Paul and wrote letters seeking guidance on a variety of issues. The church had become mired in controversy and dysfunction—not so different from many of our churches today. Through Sunday, October 7 th, we will look at this ancient thriving port city, the people who lived there and the issues they encountered in their growing church. We will also examine Paul’s advice given to the Corinthians and discern the meaning of his words for us today. I believe 1 Corinthians, Paul’s second longest letter, will inspire us all. Join me this weekend in worship!

The Well and Our New Nursery
This Sunday we dedicate our new welcoming space, ‘The Well;’ and our new nursery located in the building that connects our sanctuary and educational wing. Both improvements to our facility exhibit the kind of hospitality we long to offer everyone who visits our church. The Well is a bright informal place for groups to gather for conversation and a cup of coffee, for Sunday morning fellowship hour, or to just relax and read. Our nursery has been relocated to the space previously used as the pastor's office. This prime location keeps our most precious family members close to the sanctuary and our other meeting rooms. I hope you can be there for the unveiling.

Special Events in September
Labor Day marks the beginning of a very special time of year for the church.
Summer vacations end, kids go back to school and the church resumes schedules that were abandoned back on Memorial Day. That said, there are a few events you may want to highlight on your calendar. The first rummage sale of the season takes over our hall on Friday the 14 th . Then, Sunday, September 16 th , along with Baptisms and Teacher dedications, make plans to step outside after worship and enjoy the day with your church family and neighbors. Wayne Fall Fest will close North Wayne Avenue from 1pm-5pm as restaurants and other organizations come outdoors for this annual festival. Look for your church’s display encouraging people in the community to support our food pantry. Then at 3pm everyone is invited to Radnor High School’s Loop Field to watch and cheer for the men of the church play a friendly softball game. The following Sunday, September 23 rd , we invite the founder of Chosen 300, Brian Jenkins to join us in worship and preach. Those of you who have met Brian know well the blessings he brings.

United Methodism in the 21 st Century
I am looking forward to our discussion of the future of Methodism on Thursday, September 20 th . Lunch & Learn will meet at noon downstairs in the hall to examine the findings of our denominations Commission On A Way Forward.  This special group of individuals has met over the past two years seeking divine counsel and common understanding as they prepare plans for our Special 2019 General Conference in St. Louis, MO, in February. During our time together, we will discern the impact on the local church resulting from decisions made next year in this Special Conference.

That’s all for now. I look forward to seeing you in worship!

Pastor Tom

SEPTEMBER SERMON SERIES
The Greatest of These is Love
“… faith, hope, and love abide, these three; but the greatest of these is love.” These beautiful words of 1 Corinthians have long been recited at weddings as wide-eyed couples prepare for storybook lives in holy matrimony. However, Paul’s letter was written to a people who were fighting to keep their community from falling apart. The believers in Corinth held grievances against one another; struggled with sin in a culture fueled by sex; marriages were tested, and idol worship was the religion of choice. Join us as we engage Paul’s 1 st letter to the Corinthians and discover how these ancient words instruct us today.

Come explore with us the history of Israel's monarchy that began in glory with the hey day of King David but ended in the destruction of Jerusalem and the Exile of the Jews. Listen to the warnings and criticism of the latter prophets who lambasted Israel for her failings but nonetheless proclaimed hope in the promise of the Messiah. LADIES' EVENING BIBLE STUDY
STARTS OCTOBER 2!
Inviting all women of the church to join us for our kickoff Bible Study event, to be held on Tuesday October 2 nd , 7pm at Elissa Schoenlank’s home (see Church Directory).

Elissa has been involved in art her entire life and claims she lives in an art gallery which she is prepared to share with us. We plan to gather at her house at 7pm, have a Mexican style buffet dinner, look at art and hear about her ongoing work, now that she is devoting her time to painting. Following this, we will focus on our journey forward in our Bible Study together.

This evening will also include beginning our bible study on “Experiencing God’s Presence”. In this first study in the  Jesus Calling Bible Study Series,  you will be encouraged to lay down your cares and just spend time each day with your heavenly Father. As you follow the Lord’s instruction to “be still, and know that I am God” (Psalm 46:10), you will encounter His peace, be filled with His strength, gain a new perspective on your situation, and experience the full life that only He can provide .

Study Books are $9 each and copies will be available for sale at church on upcoming Sundays (or in the church office during the week). Again, very casual, come as you can, arrive late, leave early. Wear sweatpants or pajamas. Even if you cannot attend all weeks, we encourage you to join us at Elissa’s house for the opportunity to view her beautiful artwork.

Dates: Every other Tuesday evening at 7pm
Tuesday, 10/2 (Elissa Schoenlank’s home)
Tuesdays, 10/16, 10/30, 11/13, 11/27, 12/11   (Kimm Ebersole’s home)

AUGUST LEADERSHIP MOMENT!
We have all heard the statistic that 9 out of 10 churches are either declining, or growing so slowly, that they are not keeping up with the growth nor the changing demographic dynamics, of their communities. To address this, the Leadership team has been using a tool to measure their effectiveness titled “Eight Common Characteristics of Successful Church Revitalizations”.
