The Cup of Freedom

Worship Series - September/October 2013
@ Wichita Falls MCC!

Tired of churches and church folk telling you what NOT to do and to be???  Well, join us in this path to learn what faith FREES us to do and to be!

This week...
Freedom to Heal
Do you really want to be made well?  Sometimes the hardest part of being healed is being willing to become one who IS healed...no longer resting on the attention of others who care, residing in your own empowered self, and expected to offer healing prayer and words and presence back into the world.  It's the epitome of being outside our dis-comfort zone and living into our identity as part of the Body of Christ.

Scriptures:  2 Kings 5:1-17 & Luke 17:11-19

Don't miss this important series on your freedom in faith!

Shelly Torres-West, jazz singer, is joining us for worship at 11:00am, followed by a POTLUCK, and a seminar about LegalShield, for which Shelly is a consultant.  This is an opportunity to experience the smooth sounds of jazz, eat some great food, and learn about a service that will help you navigate legal needs.

Bring a dish to share with your church family.  You do NOT have to stay for the seminar to participate in our potluck lunch!  All are welcome!

Learn a bit about LegalShield before you come!  Click here. >>

"LegalShield has helped me draw up papers for Medical Power of Attorney, my Will, and assisted in providing legal information regarding my rights as a step parent.  Having a lawyer at the ready and as close as a phone call is well worth the service."  ~ Rev. Mel Martinez

Living Through Grief
OCTOBER 26
Living Through Grief: A Seminar for Healing and Wholeness

We all grieve things in life.  For some, the source of our grief is a lost loved one.  For others, the source of grief may be a lost job, a move, a birth, the end of a relationship, even just a change of direction in life.  We grieve so much more than we give ourselves compassion for.  In this  seminar, the Rev. Kay Seitz, a chaplain in Dallas, TX and MCC pastor, will direct us in understanding our grief, embracing one another's grief in a safe and respect-filled space, and making steps toward healing as we live through grief.

Join us Saturday, October 26th, at 9:00am (breakfast served at 8:30am) and plan to stay through lunch. We will enjoy music, sharing, and learning.  Cost is free, but donations for Pastor Kay's time and provision of food are most appreciated.  Recommended donation:  $20.  Please RSVP (tell us you're coming) so we can plan correctly for meals.  Click here to RSVP. >>

Class:  What does the Torah say about Sex...and Does it Still Matter?

Rev. John Cunyus is the teen-hood pastor of our own Pastor Mel, having served at Central Christian Church of Weatherford, TX in the 1990's.  John is a writer, publisher, and minister, living and working in Texas.

John will join us for this special event class, "What does the Torah say about Sex...and Does it Still Matter?" - a 45 minute class, beginning after worship at 1:30pm.

More About John...
After twenty years as a pastor in his home State, he went to work full-time for Searchlight Press, a publishing company he founded in 1994. At Searchlight, John publishes books on practical theology, Bible study, and world religions. He has led retreats and workshops around the United States, and has preached at hundreds of different congregations since 1988. In 2008, John began developing The Latin Testament Project, for Searchlight, translating the ancient Latin Bible into contemporary English.

A cradle member of Central Christian Church of Dallas, Texas, John now serves as Literacy Minister at Greater Mount Pleasant Baptist Church of Dallas. He also teaches at Aspen Christian College and Seminary's Dallas Satellite Extension. Cunyus is a sixth-generation Texan, and a graduate of Rice and Texas Christian Universities. John is married to the former Rocio Lizarazo of Colombia, South America, and is the father of four children.
