BID Board of Directors Election
On January 1, 2017 five (5) seats on the LA Fashion District Business Improvement District (BID) Board of Directors will be available for the upcoming 2016 election.
All qualified property owners within the boundaries of the LA Fashion District BID are eligible for Board membership. In November, all property owners, or their representative, will be asked to vote for their candidates by a mail-in ballot.
The LA Fashion District's Board of Directors oversees the Business Improvement District's:
- Clean & Safe services
- Advocacy programs
- Establishing the budget to ensure that every dollar of the BID budget is well spent
All candidates must be a property owner or their representative in good standing with all assessments paid in full by the Board approved record date of September 22, 2016. BID Board Members are required to attend a minimum of 8 Board meetings per year as well as periodic committee meetings. All terms will commence on January 1, 2017.
All property owners should have received notice of the election by mail. If you have any questions please contact Executive Director, Rena Masten Leddy at 213-488-1153 ext. 712.
DASH Service Change
Earlier this year, the LA Fashion District BID joined a small working group organized by the Central City Association (CCA) to put together a proposal for improved DASH service in Downtown. The DASH provides frequent and inexpensive bus service throughout Downtown and the City of Los Angeles. The group has been asking the City's Department of Transportation (LADOT) for later evening and nighttime service and new or extended routes.
Group members testified at a hearing on Monday about the recommendations for Downtown. We believe the LADOT recommendations must go further to addressing the needs of the entire Downtown community through new routes and even longer hours.
CCA's working group will be meeting with LADOT to discuss the proposal early next month.
Kent Recognized at City Council
City Council recognized Kent Smith, the BID's former executive director on Tuesday, August 30, 2016 for his 17 years of service and dedication to the LA Fashion District. Council District 14 presented him with plaque and Councilmember Curren Price spoke of Kent's accomplishments. Thank you to all of the board members who were able to join us in honoring Kent!
