BROOKLYN, NY: Sunday, October 12th, Council Member Jumaane D. Williams (D-Brooklyn), Deputy Leader and Chair of the Council's Housing and Buildings Committee, will host the third annual Girls Like Us Survive: Breast Cancer and Domestic Violence Awareness Month Kickoff with cohost actress/philanthropist Tiffany Jones, New York State Senator Kevin S. Parker and District Leader Rodneyse Bichotte from 5:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at CoCo Mane on 1185 Rogers Avenue, Brooklyn, NY 11226. Council Member Williams invites all community members to attend this informative reception, which will include guest speakers, refreshments, a DJ and more. The kick off is sponsored by Emblem Health, Girls Like Us, Haitian American Caucus, Healing Through Hair, HCC, F3, Chef's Choice, East Flatbush Village, A La Mode, Girls Rock, Pink Chose Me and Face My Abuse. 

Actress/philanthropist Tiffany Jones is the a cast member from OWN Network's Love In The City and is the founder of Pink Chose Me, an organization she started to raise breast cancer awareness throughout the country after battling breast cancer herself. During the event, she and other advocates will give presentations on breast cancer and domestic violence awareness, including: 

• Jacqueline Rowe, sister of professional boxer Mike Tyson founder of the Face My Abuse. Rowe will discuss domestic violence and red flags men and women should look out for and how to survive.  
• Representatives from The Maurer Foundation, an organization the educates on early detection of BC, self-checks, etc.
• Jacqueline Carr-Peck, Nutritionist from Fitness For Flatbush, who will provide food demonstrations on how to cook healthy nutritious meals to prevent from future diseases.
