Vol 1, Issue 266

An advance party of about 100 Fort Campbell soldiers arrived in Liberia over the weekend as part of the ongoing efforts to stop the spread of the Ebola virus. A pentagon spokesman says that brings the total number of American boots on the ground to about 565. U.S. troops will build 17 treatment centers and military blood labs in Liberia. The new blood labs will reduce wait times on test results from several days to several hours. In all, around 700 troops from the 101st Airborne Division will deploy to Liberia.

Kentucky Attorney General Jack Conway is among those scheduled to stop at Fort Campbell next week for a town hall meeting. According to a news release from Conway's office, Conway, along with Tennessee Attorney General Herbert Slatery, and Holly Petraeus, director of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau's Office of Service Member Affairs, will conduct a media conference and attend a town hall style meeting to discuss consumer protection issues with Fort Campbell soldiers and their families.

A military construction program begun in Fiscal Year 2010 to replace aging Department of Defense Education Activity schools, will replace Marshall Elementary School, at Fort Campbell. However, because the new facility will be built on the same site as the current school, the school will close temporarily at the end of the 2014-2015 school year. The nearly 500 students from Marshall will be moved to the five remaining elementary schools, which will result in some redistricting of students. Parents and sponsors will be provided with school assignments and detailed school bus routes and schedules in the spring of 2015.

Collection For Troops

WKDZ-WHVO will conclude our collection of supplies to send to our men and women serving overseas with a collection drive Tuesday at Hancock's Neighborhood Market from 4:00pm until 5:00 pm. WKDZ's Cindy Allen Lax will be on site that afternoon to take donations and shop for supplies for anyone who'd rather not shop on their own. Please give to help our soldiers have a better upcoming holiday season. If you know a deployed soldier, especially from the local area, who would appreciate a care package, contact the WKDZ-WHVO studios at 270-522-3232 or call local RSVP coordinator Shama Long at 270-886-8885.

Trigg County Logo

The Trigg County Wildcats head into their biggest game of the season tonight as they go on the road to take on Paducah Tilghman in a key district showdown. The Wildcats come into the matchup on a three game winning streak, and will look to take a firm grip on the top spot in the district with the playoffs now only three weeks away. Both teams enter the contest at 1-0 in district play. Tilghman picked up a win last week over Fort Campbell, while Trigg County handled Webster County. Coverage of Trigg County and Paducah Tilghman gets underway tonight at 6:00 with the Toyota of Hopkinsville Friday Night Blitz on 106.5 WKDZ and wkdzradio.com.

If the Fort Campbell Falcons hope to be at home for the first round of the Class 3A playoffs, they face a must win situation tonight as they host Webster County for Homecoming Night. Both teams lost their district openers last week, and a loss tonight virtually guarantees a 4-seed, and the ensuing trip to take on South Warren in Bowling Green in three weeks. Coverage of the Falcons against Webster County will get started tonight at 6:00 with the Toyota of Hopkinsville Friday Night Blitz, on Oldies 96.5 WHVO, and worldwide at oldies1480.com.

For the third time in the last four weeks, the Kentucky Wildcats are facing the biggest game of the Mark Stoops era, as the Cats head south to the bayou Saturday night to take on Les Miles and his LSU Tigers. The Wildcats have completed the first half of the season with a 5-1 record, and are one play away from being 6-0. A win in Baton Rouge Saturday night would mean the Wildcats would be bowl eligible, and would set up a HUGE showdown next weekend with #1 Mississippi State at Commonwealth Stadium. Coverage of Kentucky and LSU will get started Saturday at 5:00pm on 106.5 WKDZ. Go Big Blue!!!

With UK football having its best season in several years, it has almost snuck up on us that basketball season is now here. Coach John Calipari and his Kentucky Wildcats officially get things rolling for the 2014-2015 season tonight with Big Blue Madness. There is more excitement surrounding this team than maybe since the 1996 or 1978 teams, which both went on to cut down the nets at the end of the season. It was also announced Thursday that the Cats were the #1 preseason team in the USA Today coaches Top 25.

The Tennessee Titans put an end to their losing streak last week, as they held on for win over the Jacksonville Jaguars. The Titans will try to make it back to back wins Sunday as they travel to take on the Washington Redskins. Tennessee is in need of another win as they try to keep themselves in the hunt for a playoff spot, and not fall too far off the pace too early in the season. Coverage of Tennessee against Washington will get underway Sunday morning at 11:00 on 106.5 WKDZ.

If you didn't play last week, be sure to sign up and play our Wildcat Chevrolet Friday Football Frenzy this week. Each week through the season, we have a selection of games for you to pick. There are weekly prizes and, in addition to the prizes, there are always the bragging rights about your knowledge of high school football. New Week, New Game, New Prizes.
