Shabbat Evening Service - K-2nd Grade Consecration

Our Friday service will be a special family-oriented service honoring our newest Jewish Learning Lab learners! Come for joyful visual prayer, story, and community celebration as we honor our K-2 students who have begun their Jewish education at WRT this fall. There is a JLL program for new K-2 families that begins at 5:00 pm.

5th Annual Water and Wine with guest Alon Ben-Gurion

Rabbi Blake will lead a conversation with David Ben-Gurion's grandson, Alon Ben-Gurion, a hospitality consultant who uses his extensive network and hospitality know-how to promote development in the Negev. Aging Well Series - Memory Care for Yourself and Your Loved Ones
Sunday, December 3 at 10:00 am
This final session will be a conversation about cognitive issues that can be normal age-related changes or those that reflect a real memory disorder. In addition, an elder law attorney will be discussing how to have difficult conversations among family members.  Click here for more information .

The Bible as Literature
led by Rabbi Daniel Reiser

Rabbi Reiser will guide us in studying the Book of Jonah and the Book of Esther, with an eye towards their literary characters and to discover the complexities of motive and ambiguities of each that are essential not only to good literature, but to the human experience. Next class is December 12.

WRJ Winter Luncheon

Andrée Aelion Brooks is an award-winning journalist, author and lecturer. She will be speaking on the role of Northern and Southern Jews in the Civil War, including the story of Judah P. iSing Shabbat - K-4th graders and their families
Friday, December 8 at 6:00 pm

Children's Community Chanukah Choir Concert

You are invited to attend a community-wide Chanukah concert featuring Westchester area children's choirs, including WRT's youth choir.

Israeli Cooking for Adults with Omer
Tuesday, December 12 at 10:30 am
Through class conversation using Hebrew vocabulary, Omer will explain the background and significance of foods from different cultures within Israel, as well as provide recipes. No registration required.

Kickboxing with Omer
Wednesday, December 13 at 9:30 pm
Enjoy a weekly workout of Israeli-style kickboxing, while listening to Israeli music and learning some Hebrew. All are welcome. Requires comfortable clothing and sneakers to work out in. No registration required. 

And She Said: Women's Commentaries on the Bible
Led by Eliana Fischel, WRT Rabbinic Intern

This class will use The Torah: A Women's Commentary, Nehama Leibowitz's interpretations, and Judith Plaskow's philosophy to understand important Biblical passages from the feminine and feminist perspectives. This class is for everyone-those new to Torah study and those more experienced with it.

WRT sponsored Social Action Volunteer Opportunities

Holiday Party at the Children's Center for Learning in New Rochelle.
Volunteers are needed at a Head Start program for needy pre-school age children, between 9:00-11:45 am and 12:45-2:15 pm, to help run arts & crafts activities. Contact Debbie Radov at djradov@aol.com.
WRT Chanukah Celebration for Developmentally Disabled Adults. Volunteers are needed at the Temple from 6:30 to 8:30 pm to set up and help oversee this event. Contact Fran Zimbard at qmrs@optonline.net.

Tot Shabbat - Chanukah
Friday, December 15 at 5:30 pm - Chanukah
Designed for families with children ages six and younger, shabbat starts with a short service led by our clergy followed by a child-friendly dinner. All families will be invited to attend the community menorah candlelighting at 6:15pm in the CJL circle.  RSVP to Ellen.Rosenberg@wrtemple.org.

Annual Community Outdoor Chanukah Candlelighting
Friday, December 15 at 6:15 pm
We welcome the entire community as we light our outdoor 10-foot tall Chanukah menorah! We will continue the evening with an early Shabbat Service, to be followed by a festive Chanukah oneg. Please bring your own Chanukah menorah so that we can fill our hearts and halls with the light and warmth of Chanukah.

Israel Conversation: Where are the Maccabees?

In celebration of Israel at 70 and Chanukah, we ask the question "Where are the Maccabees?"  Omer will present a film followed by conversation about what makes a person break social norms and act according to his or her belief? Are there still Maccabees in the 21 century? Click here to RSVP.
