Dear WSMS Parents and Guardians,

We are looking forward to a great weekend. Our middle school volleyball and football programs wrapped up successful seasons and we will be heading into our winter sport seasons over the next two weeks.

Congratulations to our theatre, choir and dance students for their outstanding performance of Madagascar Jr.   last week. They made our school and community proud. We are also looking forward to our 8th grade service learning project next Wednesday.

Tomorrow is the last day to bring your used shoes to donate to our "Share the Shoes" project.  Students can drop off donations in boxes located in the rotunda, fish bowl, and trophy case.

As we head into Thanksgiving break next week, we have an exciting week of activities on campus.  Please see below for more details.  Go Leopards!

Sincerely,

Students in grades 7 and 8 will be shown the program on December 4 and December 5 at Willow Springs Middle School. Students will participate in the program through their math classes.

The Parent Program is a preview of the student presentation where parents will learn creative ways to talk about sex with their children and encourage them to avoid sexual activity until marriage. "This is a must see event for anyone concerned about the problems associated with teen sexual activity," said Marilyn Morris, President of Aim for Success.

Campus Information and Reminders
Safety Corner
School Bus Safety Practices
We would like to remind everyone of the following school bus safety practices:

*When you see a school bus, assume children will be in the area, and take extra care: leave lots of space around the bus.
*When the bus turns on its flashing yellow lights, the bus is either preparing to stop at a railroad crossing or preparing to stop to pick up or drop off children.  Please slow down and prepare to stop.
*When the bus turns on its flashing red lights traffic must stop in both directions.  Never pass a school bus with flashing red lights.

Thank you for your assistance in helping to keep our students safe.

Student Nutrition Newsletter for November

College Board PSAT 8/9 - Wednesday, November 29
On Wednesday, November 29th, WSMS 8th graders will take the College Board's PSAT 8/9 test. This assessment is an opportunity for students, parents, and teachers to assess a student's math, writing, and reading skills needed to be college-ready.

For more information on the College Board's PSAT 8/9 test, you can visit this website . The PSAT 8/9 assessment will begin promptly at 9am on Wednesday, November 29th and will last approximately 3.5 hours. 8th graders may want to bring a bottle of water for testing. All 8th graders will eat C lunch that day.

We ask all 8th graders to leave their cell phones at home on testing days. If students choose to bring their phones to school, they will be asked to sign a waiver and place their phone in a bin that will be removed from the room during testing. Phones will be returned after testing. While we will take precautions to keep all phones safe, we cannot be held accountable for lost or damaged phones.

If you have questions or concerns, please contact Kay Bordelon, [email protected].

Sex Education & Your Willow Springs Student, December 4th and December 5th
Students in grades 7 and 8 will be shown the AIM for Success program - Freedom to Succeed on December 4th and December 5th at Willow Springs Middle School. Students will participate in the program through their math classes, with a trained AIM presenter. The Aim For Success, Inc. motivational programs have educated over a million young people across America during the past 17 years on topics such as sex, drugs, alcohol, and bullying. AIM has been educating our Lovejoy students for more than 12 years! Click here for an overview of the program.

Final Exams, December 15th-20th
For a copy of the fall semester final exam schedule, please click here .
Final exams will officially begin, Friday, December 15th. Teachers are expected to provide students with final exam reviews by Friday, December 1st.  In addition, all final exam reviews will be loaded on the WSMS website on December 1st  (under both student and parent) and teachers will upload exam reviews into their Google Classrooms.   Please encourage your son or daughter to begin working on their final exam reviews early. As they begin to study, encourage them to study every night in short 15-20 minute increments rather than "cramming" the night before the test. Research shows that students who study in small chunks of time over a period of days are more successful on assessments.
We will be sending out more information about middle school final exams over the next few weeks.

PTA General Meeting and Parent Program - Tuesday, November 14th

The Willow Springs PTA will hold a General PTA Meeting on Tuesday, November 14, 2017 at Willow Springs in the auxiliary gym beginning at 10:00 A.M. Following the meeting there will be a parent program presented by Aurora Bradford with Aim for Success, Inc.

Attention Parents!

The sexual revolution of the 60's dramatically redefined sexual boundaries in America. As a result, your child is growing up in a time where anything goes. This can cause confusion and stress for today's teens, not to mention their parents! However, your child is going to have the opportunity to hear a far different message when Aim for Success, Inc. presents its nationally-acclaimed program, Freedom to Succeed, which shares the advantages of saving sex for marriage.

Freedom to Succeed addresses the question, "Why choose sexual abstinence? Because it's the law!" While society strives to remove sexual boundaries, state and federal laws are still enforced. These laws exist to protect potential victims of sexual crimes, and punish those who break the law. Either way, your child needs to know the law. This program provides the legal definition of sex and explains laws dealing with such issues as child support, under age sex, sexual harassment and sexual activity while under the influence of drugs and alcohol.

Students will learn that avoiding sexual activity doesn't just provide FREEDOM from pregnancies and STDs, but also a literal freedom from prison or sex offender registration. Avoiding sex gives them the FREEDOM to fulfill their dreams and goals!

Aim for Success, Inc. has educated over 2.5 million teens, parents, and educators across America since 1993 with their motivational presentations.

Freedom to Succeed will be presented to the students on December 4 th and December 5 th.
