Dear WSMS Parents and Guardians,

This is our final parent newsletter of the 2016-2017 school year.  Tomorrow, our teachers and staff will be honoring the graduating class of 2017 at Lovejoy High Schools graduation. We always enjoy seeing our former students as graduates and wish them luck in college and beyond. Congratulations to our students and staff for a great 2016-2017 school year, we hope everyone has a safe and restful summer break.  See you back on campus in August!  Go Leopards!

Sincerely,

Duke TIP Grand Recognition
Justin Larimer , a Willow Springs 7th grader, recently traveled to Duke University to participate in the Grand Recognition Ceremony for the Duke TIP program. Duke TIP identifies top 7th grade students based on achieving the 95th percentile on standardized tests. These students are then given the option to take college entrance exams-- either the SAT or ACT test -- as a 7th grader, in order to challenge themselves and see how well they do. Based on his high ACT scores, Justin earned not only state recognition, but also national recognition. Out of 53,843 top-scoring 7th graders participating in the Duke TIP program this year, he is one of only 2,072 nationwide to qualify for this honor. These students' ACT and SAT scores are approximately equal to the 90th percentile of college-bound high school seniors taking the same tests this year. The Grand Recognition Ceremony was held at Cameron Indoor Stadium, home of the Duke Blue Devils basketball team, at Duke University in Durham, North Carolina on Monday, May 22nd. Justin had a great time touring the Duke campus, eating the best pizza ever from their student restaurant, and collecting some spirit wear with his mom. Summer Mailer
Our summer mail is expected to go out the week of June 19. STAAR results and report cards will be included in this mail out. If you would like to see your child's report card before then, please check the Parent Portal after June 1 by clicking here .

WSMS School Supply List 2017-2018
WSMS school supply lists are posted on the school website under parent resources or by clicking here . Over the past three years, we have seen a decline in the number of parents purchasing school supplies through our bulk order option with Bestway Office Supply. This year we will not be providing the option to pre-purchase bulk supplies. Students/parents will purchase supplies elsewhere and bring them on the first day of school.

Not Returning to LISD Next Year?
If your student will not be returning to WSMS or Lovejoy High School in the fall, please email Carol Vik with your student's name and where they will be attending school.
