Dear WSMS Parents and Guardians,

With school officially beginning on Monday, we are wrapping up our final preparations for another outstanding year.  We had an excellent "Walk the Springs" this morning; it was nice to have students back in the building, their energy and excitement created a nice buzz in our halls. In preparation for Monday, I would like to share some important information as we head into our first day of school.

Sincerely,
Kent Messer
Principal

Parents may drop their students off through the carpool line, or students may ride the bus.

Student drop off in the morning will be in the WSMS courtyard.  Parent pick up will be on the west side of the building.  Please  click here for the traffic flow map.

Buses will run routes according to the regular school year schedule. Busing information is posted on the  district's transportation website. Solar Eclipse - 1ST Day of School
A unique celestial event will occur on our first day of school - A SOLAR ECLIPSE! The last time a solar eclipse of this magnitude occurred in Texas was February 26, 1979! For us in Texas, we will not have a total eclipse. Our eclipse will have a 0.8 magnitude and reach its peak at 1:09 pm.

Questions about the event:
Answer

Will all students be participating in viewing the eclipse?

Yes, all of our students will be participating in the events throughout the day. We will take students outside in groups of 100 between 11:45 and 1:30 to view the eclipse. Each group will be outside about 5 minutes for the viewing. Students will also be presented lessons in their science classes. We will be taking the correct safety precautions in order to protect their eyes.

Will all students be using the glasses?

Yes, we have ordered glasses for student use. Part of our Science standards, is to teach safety. Our glasses meet the requirement for ISO 12312-2:2015. We will stress the importance of not taking their glasses off.

What will the supervision look like during this process?

Students will have limited time outside to view the eclipse and teachers and staff will be on hand to supervise students. Your child's safety is our number one priority.

Will parents have the option to "opt out" if they do not feel comfortable with their students participating?

Ye s, please email Monique Cardwell so we can accommodate any students who will not be able to go outside.

Parent Drop and Pick Up
Please be patient with the parent drop off and pick up process the first week of school, traffic will move very slowly.  Traditionally by the second week, everyone has a better understanding of the process and it will flow much smoother. Just a reminder that parent drop off in the morning will be in the courtyard located in the back of school.  Parent pick up will be on the grass area on the west side of the building (closest to the Rockland Farm subdivision).  For both parent drop-off and pick up, all cars will enter campus through the east entrance closest to Country Club Drive.  Please  click here for the traffic flow map.
