A Message from the Superintendent
Dear Washington Unified Families and Staff,

We want to make you aware that the Washington Unified School District (WUSD) has been monitoring the recent online situation where characters dressed as clowns are making threatening social media posts aimed at educational institutions nationwide.

The District is aware that some of these posts are being seen and/or received by individuals in our community and we have been actively working with the West Sacramento Police Department to investigate. As such, it is very important to take note that there is no immediate or credible threat to our schools and community. These threats are being circulated on a nationwide basis and are not specific to WUSD or West Sacramento.

We do not, however, take these threats lightly and will continue monitoring social media in order to advise law enforcement of these posts and ensure that they are included in the investigation. We would also like to encourage you to engage in open dialogue with your children about the seriousness of this type of behavior.

Be proactive and extremely vigilant of strange behavior in the community as well as information being circulated online. In this age of technology, we all have access to an abundance of information on the internet, and it is important that we have conversations with our children about questioning that information, where it comes from and the manner in which it is delivered.

The safety of our students and staff is always our top priority. If you witness any suspicious activity, in or around a school site, please contact your local school and school principal. We will continue to keep you updated with any developments regarding this situation.

Sincerely yours,

Linda C. Luna
