WUSD Message to Our Community
Dear Washington Unified Families and Friends,

We cannot begin to put into words the sadness that has engulfed our community as we learned that two of our Southport Elementary students together with their younger sibling were killed last night.

Our thoughts and hearts are with their family and all the classmates, friends, and families connected to the children. We will continue working closely with local authorities to keep you updated with ongoing developments regarding the incident.

At this point in time, our school district has brought in counselors and support personnel to assist teachers and students throughout this ordeal. Support services are available for students and teachers for the remainder of this week and in the future for grief counseling for anyone who needs it.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact the Washington Unified School District’s Student and Family Support Services Department at (916) 375-7600 ext. 1370. The 24-Hour Crisis Line in West Sacramento is: (916) 372-6565.

A candlelight vigil for the children will be held tonight, September 14th, 7PM at Southport Elementary School, 2747 Linden Road, West Sacramento.

The vigil is open to all members of the community wishing to attend and honor the memory of the children. There is parking available in the church parking lot adjacent to the school property.
