Class of 2017 Graduates Visit Former Elementary Schools
On May 31st the Washington Unified School District (WUSD) kicked off a new and exciting tradition—Senior Walks! Members of the River City High School Class of 2017 returned to their former elementary schools throughout our school district while wearing their caps and gowns to walk the halls celebrating their achievements and inspiring the next generation of graduates to continue working hard and to stay focused on their goals. It was a touching moment allowing students, teachers and staff to reminisce and share the joy of graduation.

Congratulations to all our 2017 graduates from River City High School, Yolo High School and West Sac Early College Prep!

Check out scenes from each ceremony on our  WUSD Facebook page.
KINDERS GO TO COLLEGE - About 75 kindergarteners from the Washington Unified School District (WUSD) in West Sacramento will attend a special “Kinders Go To College” event from 9 a.m. to noon on Friday, May 19, 2017 at Sacramento City College’s (SCC) West Sacramento Center. The students will be treated to a number of special college “classes” (10-minute workshops) in fields such as dental assisting and hygiene, nursing, art, public service, and robotics.

Congratulations to the Bridgeway Island Elementary and Stonegate Elementary Concert Band who performed at the Music in the Parks Festival on Saturday, May 6th. The band took third place in their division out of seven schools participating. After careful review of the judge’s scoring sheets, we found that the first place band earned only four points more than our Bridgeway and Stonegate students. Excellent job Concert Band and a special shout out to their instructor, Delores Henson!

KIDS HOME RUN - On May 31st we joined our amazing community partners, the City of West Sacramento and the West Sacramento Chamber of Commerce as they hosted Mayor Cabaldon’s Annual State of the City Address featuring the launch of West Sacramento’s new program, the Kid’s Home Run. The unique initiative allows us to combine our efforts to further support student achievement by bringing together a guarantee of universal preschool, plus college savings accounts for every child graduating preschool and entering public kindergarten in the Washington Unified School District, paid internships in high school, free community college, university scholarships, and digital badges to mark skills.

Join us in giving a big round of applause to Stonegate Elementary's very own Leah Nelson and her BecuzIcare11 bracelets for receiving the Civic Leadership Award for Pride at Mayor Cabaldon’s Annual State of the City Address! Leah has been an inspiration not only in West Sacramento but around the world as she reminds us all to work hard and be kind—be the change you want to see! Congratulations to Leah and her family!
