A Note From Our School Board President
|
|
My name is Alicia Cruz and it is a pleasure to serve another term as the Board President of the Washington Unified School District, West Sacramento (WUSD). I am entering my 4th year on the WUSD school board and I am proud to be a part of public education in West Sacramento.
Over the years our board has created various partnerships, programs and made financial decisions in which we were able to get the district out of a financial deficit. We have been able to provide raises for teachers, staff, management and administration without having to furlough or lay off any employees. Thus, we are able to retain and sustain the best teachers and staff for our students and district.

Join us in thanking the West Sacramento Rotary Club for their generosity and special consideration of our 2nd grade students at Westfield Village Elementary School. The Rotarians visited the school on January 14 and donated a brand new dictionary to every 2nd grader. This is a great resource to our kids and a wonderful way for them to experience the love and support of our community.
The Dictionaries will definitely be put to great use!

On Saturday, February 20th Elkhorn Village Elementary School will host its 2nd Annual Math Competition from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
The competition is open to all Elkhorn K-8th grade students. Students will compete individually on a grade level math test with the option of participating in a team test. Students opting out of the team test will have STEM-related activities to participate in. Elkhorn adopted this model from MESA Math Competitions their MESA advisors and students attended in the past. Last year, the first ever school-wide competition had over 120 students from all grade levels participate along with many teacher, parent, and community volunteers – it was amazing to see and they are gearing up for another great event this year.
