The Gateway to Extraordinary Possibilities
Welcome Back Message from the Superintendent
We have had an amazing first week of school. We have surpassed our expected growth in enrollment across the district and welcome our newly enrolled 150+ students to the Washington Unified School District Family! Our District is intensely focused on preparing all students for college and career readiness and becoming the next generation of leaders in our community. You will also notice a sense of urgency and excitement across the school district as we deepen our commitment and efforts in fulfilling our mission statement and truly becoming the gateway to extraordinary possibilities.

We have accomplished so much these past two years: District wide communications, new curriculum and resources for our students to meet and exceed standards, alternative and choice programs, new leadership with vision and passion leading our schools, visual and performing arts beginning in Kindergarten feeding into the high schools, and stronger partnerships with our parents, city and county. We are a district on the move and everyone is taking notice of the amazing transformation of WUSD!

First Day of School
BACK IN ACTION—August 16th, marked the first day of school throughout the Washington Unified School District. We were off to a super start as all of our amazing schools spent the morning rolling out the red carpet for students and families welcoming them back onto each campus.
The start of August was a great opportunity to welcome back both our certificated and classified employees with our annual Welcome Back Breakfast and pep rallies. The morning was filled with a lot of positive momentum featuring a tasty breakfast prepared by our WUSD Food Services staff and served by the Superintendent’s Cabinet.

Following breakfast, staff attended a welcome back pep rally in the RCHS gymnasium led by Superintendent Luna and participated in a boisterous game of “Who’s in the House” where each school site, department and team was charged with making as much noise as possible when they were introduced. The teams who did the best job of letting everyone know they were “in the house” received a catered team lunch. We all walked away with a greater sense of unity and spirit kicking-off the new school year!
Our Washington Unified families were invited into all our schools this month for the 2017 Back to School Nights!

These nights are valuable opportunities for teachers to showcase their classroom, explain their goals for the year, provide important information to families highlighting their teaching style and methodology, how they grade and the requirements for a good grade, what supplies will be needed for the year and what projects are coming up.
On August 5th our District teamed up with an amazing group of West Sacramento community organizations focused on collecting backpacks and school supplies as well as hygiene kits for students in the Washington Unified School District.

We are extremely excited that the event was a smashing success making sure our children have the resources they need to start the school year strong. Thank you to everyone involved and we look forward to our continued collaboration with our amazing local partners.

We are overjoyed with opportunity to share with you the new WUSD Promotional Video!

Our District is on an exciting path of revitalization transforming itself academically, organizationally and culturally into a district that truly is The Gateway to Extraordinary Possibilities.

The best way to inform our community about the amazing things transpiring inside and outside the classroom is by allowing our students, teachers and staff to showcase their own work. This video is a brief glimpse into our District highlighting why we are #Great2bWUSD

The WUSD works regularly with a number of community groups and outside organizations to distribute materials district-wide. Beginning with the 2017-18 school year, the WUSD is transitioning to a new electronic method for flyer distribution using a program called  Peachjar .

In August the WUSD Technology Department hosted several community "drop ins" allowing for families to visit the District Office computer lab and receive assistance with setting up their new Aeries Parent Portal Accounts.
