The Desert Caballeros Western Museum in historic downtown Wickenburg is now displaying a solo exhibition by renowned artist Doug Smith. Titled, "Is it Western?: Far from Somewhere, Paintings by Doug Smith" , this exhibition incites dialogue about what it means to be "Western" and broadens perceptions of what is "Western" in the 21st century. The show is open to the public with paid admission Oct. 18, 2014 and continues through Dec. 14, 2014.

Arizona Watercolor Association ("AWA") Fall 2014 Juried Members Exhibition featuring 80 fine art works in various water media techniques. Traditional portraits and florals are displayed beside abstracts, collages and pattern studies. The work not only includes transparent watercolor but also inks, gouache and acrylic paint in both traditional and experimental styles. The exhibit is shown in cooperation with West Valley Art Museum which oversees and facilitates the Peoria City Hall Art Gallery.

Exhibit: I Was, I Am, I Will Be
Exhibit Dates: October - December
During the course of a two-day workshop, twelve young people ages 14-19 living in Child Protective Services custody were asked to explore their past, present, and possible futures through painting and writing. They took the theme 'I Was, I Am, I Will Be' and explored their life experiences, declared who they are as a result, and imagined who they hope to become. The resulting paintings and poetry are affirmations of self - testimonies which validate both the pain and joy which accompany their individual experiences. This exhibit will be on display until the end of the year.

As part of our 50th anniversary celebration, we are setting aside one day to take a close look at all of the beauty and activity that goes on in Wickenburg during one 24 hour period. Use your creativity and vision and submit up to 3 photos of what you see in your day (and night!) in Wickenburg! The top photos will be shown during an exhibition at the Wickenburg Art Center from January 2 - January 31, 2015, as well as at other events and locations in town.

The photos MUST be made between midnight to midnight on Friday, Nov 21 and can be any subject that is family-friendly and depicts an aspect of life in Wickenburg.
