Plainfield United Methodist Church publicly unveiled its new pipe organ on Sunday, May 7 to a capacity audience of 550+ persons. In the works for more than a decade, this pipe organ project realizes the church’s vision to upgrade its musical offerings on Sunday morning and to leverage the pipe organ as a tool for building relationships in their local community.
PUMC's Director of Music, Michael Pettry says, "Beyond Sunday morning worship services, this new pipe organ also offers us a chance to reach into the community through concerts like our October “Organ Spook-tacular” concert for families, to offer organ lessons to the next generation of church musicians, and much more. This is a fine artistic, outreach and worship tool in our sacred toolbox!”
The May 7, 2017 Celebration Concert featured organist Ken Cowan, among the most active and respected organists in the nation. Bishop Trimble attended and spoke at the beginning of the concert, and the afternoon included a Q&A between the organist and questions from the audience. Plainfield UMC also used the occasion of the new pipe organ to secure coverage in area media outlets, including through print and digital publications, plus television news broadcasts.
