It is hard for the new congregation not to have a space of our own. We set up and take down all of our stuff. We load and unload and do it all again. My lower back feels the years of this spiritual startup! On Sunday evening, we had Dinner Church outside because our usual spot had already been booked when we entered this new formation. I set up tables and chairs and blankets. I hung our rainbow flag, set out our candles and spread our signs around the edges. Our little corner of St. James Park was an outdoor sanctuary of hope and love, even if just for a time.

As much as I am praying and working like crazy for a space that we can call home every week, I give thanks for what happens when there are no walls. By gathering outside, people who are not likely to come inside find their way to us. Hector approached and asked if he would be welcome as a gay Catholic. Ernie pulled up his cart and brought his friend and told us we were a huge blessing to him that night. A vigorous wind rushed through as Felix played Go Now In Peace on the violin. Even those who weren't in our corner felt the presence of our Greater Love. As I shared in my message, there is no act of love, no matter how meaningless it looks, that is disconnected. We are instantly with the whole of God.

Walk for peace this Friday and root for the San Jose Giants with us next weekend!
