With the release of the 2013 budget earlier this week, Administration officials have stated that they intend to work with Congress to seek legislation that would provide authority to waive restrictions on funding UNESCO.

In 2002 Burmese leader Aung Sang Suu Kyi was awarded the UNESCO Madanjeet Singh Prize for the Promotion of Tolerance and Non-Violence, but she was not able to accept it.
As part of the Education For All 2012 focus on skills, UNESCO is currently accepting submissions as part of an art contest open to participants ages 18 to 24.
The contest asks youth to address the question of what skills young people need to create a better future.

To help mark this year's important anniversary, the Theatre Communications Group (the ITI Center in the U.S., directed by our Commisisoner Emilya Cachapero) has organized an essay contest that asks participants to address how theatre-makers can strengthen ties between nations.
