April Issue:
Councillor's Message

Dear  neighbours,

April showers bring May flowers!

A reminder that as we experience the rainy weather, there could be potential flooding.  Please keep children and pets away from creeks and rivers.

I will be hosting an Open House on Wednesday, April 4TH  @ Erindale High School from 6pm - 8pm for those residents that were effected by Cankerworms and Gypsy Moths.  Forestry will have a presentation and be on hand to answer any questions about the upcoming aerial spray.

Earth Days 2018 are right around the corner!  Do you have a group that is planning on participating  in this years 20 minute clean up?  Be sure to register your Clean Up Crew at Earth Days.

If there is anything I can assist with, please do not hesitate to contact my office or send me an email.

Regards,

Matt

Spring Clean Up

The City of Mississauga begins its spring street sweeping and clean-up program after the winter season.

The City's Transportation and Works Department clears debris left behind after the winter season from roads, sidewalks, traffic islands, hard-surfaced boulevards and curb side gutters.

The sweeping of all City roads begins in mid-April, which is then followed in May by the cleaning of hard-surfaced boulevards, sidewalks that are directly adjacent to the curb, curb side gutters and traffic islands.

Regular Street Sweeping Program

After the spring clean-up, the City continues to maintain roadways through an ongoing regular street-sweeping program which ends when winter weather arrives.

From June to the end of October, Business Improvement Areas in Mississauga (Streetsville, Port Credit, Malton, Clarkson) are swept weekly, main roads are swept bi-weekly and industrial roads are swept monthly.

For more information on street sweeping dial 3-1-1, or if outside City limits call 905-615-4311 from Monday to Friday between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m.

Nominations are now open for the City of Mississauga's 2018 Civic Awards of Recognition. Starting today, until April 30, you can nominate outstanding individuals, community groups and businesses whose work makes Mississauga a great place to be.

This year, in addition to community volunteering and achievements in sports and the arts, the City will recognize two new groups of nominees:
*    Businesses, community groups or individuals who have consistently removed barriers for people with disabilities
*    Youth ages 14 to 24 who volunteer for more than 100 hours in community and civic activities.

Know an individual or an organization that qualifies? Visit the City's website at
mississauga.ca/civicrecognition , read the award criteria and fill out the online nomination form. You can also download the form and submit it by email or mail.

The City will consider the first 100 nominees and review nominations on a first come, first served basis. Make sure your nomination counts by sending it in early!

Nominees who qualify will be invited to receive their awards during a formal ceremony at the Mississauga Civic Centre on Tuesday, June 12, 2018.

Youth volunteers and work that supports accessibility fit with the spirit of Mississauga and are deserving additions to the recognition program. The Civic Recognition Program also includes the Certificate of Recognition, the Civic Award of Merit and Civic Award of Philanthropy.
