Mentor/Mentee Reception Kicks Off 2011 Program

The 9th annual Mentor/Mentee reception on Sept. 19 kicked off this year's Washburn University School of Law 1L Mentor Program that pairs area volunteer lawyers with first-year law students. The Mentor Program is designed to give first-year students a connection to the community and a resource for discussing issues related to their careers.

Court of Appeals Hears Cases at Washburn Law

Kansas Court of Appeals Judges Christel Marquardt, Thomas Malone and Stephen Hill heard four appeals on Sept. 20 in the Robinson Courtroom at Washburn Law in honor of Constitution Day. 


"These cases were chosen because we thought they would present interesting constitutional issues for the students," Judge Marquardt said. "The constitutional rights we all share are tested daily in cases like these."


Constitution Day commemorates the adoption of the U.S. Constitution on Sept. 17, 1787.

Class of 1986 Reunion A Great Success

Members of the Class of 1986 traveled from various places to celebrate their reunion on Sept. 16 and 17. Attendees were from Kansas, Colorado, Missouri, and from as far away as the District of Columbia, New York, Pennsylvania, and Washington.

Breaching Borders Symposium Features Nationally
Recognized Scholars

Washburn Law invites you to join us at "Breaching Borders: State Encroachment into the Federal Immigration Domain?" on Oct. 20 and 21 at the Bradbury Thompson Alumni Center. This symposium will explore the political and legal controversies mounting at the intersection of federal and state immigration law. A number of distinguished experts will partake in three distinct plenary sessions:

  • Comparative Assessment of State Immigration Policies;
  • Immigration and Employment; and
  • Birthright Citizenship.

Nominate a Graduate for 2012 Lifetime Achievement Award


The Lifetime Achievement Award is bestowed upon Washburn Law graduates whose careers have been highly distinguished, and whose achievements and contributions are widely recognized as significant and outstanding in their field of endeavor. These awards are presented at the annual Alumni Association/Kansas Bar Association meetings in June. Deadline for 2012 nominations is February 1, 2012.
