Start with keeping safe the environment your dog lives in. If you have a pool, there are some easy tricks to ensure your dog is not in danger:
Fences: to ensure your dog cannot enter the pool when you're not around, install fencing around the area
Pool covers: Make sure they are made of a material that lets rainwater drain through because dogs can drown, not only in the pool itself, but in even puddles on top of pool covers.
If you are having an outdoor experience, be it anything from surfing in the ocean to swimming in a lake, there are some common measures to adopt:
Doggie life jackets: these help pets that do not have enough power in their legs to keep their head properly above water. When dogs swim, oftentimes they swallow large amounts of water; however, they can also breathe in water as they try to swim, which can lead to fliud in the lungs and sometimes cause drowning.
Always check the strength of the current before letting your dog enter the water to ensure the current isn't too strong for them to handle.

Rinse him off: It is vital to eliminate either sea salt, algae and/or every external item from his body.
Dry your pup's ears to be sure he won't get any infections.
