2016 Annual Report Highlights Historic Year of Water Achievements

When historians look back on California in 2016, they will undoubtedly focus on a crisis created by the most significant, far-reaching drought in modern times. When they look at San Diego County, they will see a different story - how the region's visionary water agencies prepared ahead for drought conditions and even stored 100,000 acre-feet of water in a newly expanded reservoir.

Achievements in drought response, infrastructure reliability, financial management and other areas have been captured in the Water Authority's redesigned fiscal year 2016 Annual Report. The online report is interactive, with videos, charts, documents and photos that tell the story of a historic year.

KUSI News interviewed San Diego County Supervisor Kristin Gaspar and Water Authority Board Vice Chair Jim Madaffer on March 24 about the call by business and civic leaders to demand MWD "Stop the Spending!"

"San Diegans can't afford to be paying too much for their water," said Supervisor Gaspar. "We can't afford to sit idly by and watch Metropolitan Water District recklessly spend on unneeded projects while we foot the bill."
