The Alexandria Waterfront Commission is holding a joint meeting with the Parks and Recreation Commission where items of interest include updates on the unit block of King Street Pedestrian Plaza and the Beachcomber RFP and a worksession with Olin Studio on concept design refinements (Tues. 1/21 at 7:30 AM, the Lyceum, 201 S. Washington St).

 

The January Del Ray Business Association (DRBA) monthly lunch will feature Annual Election and New Year Announcements (Tues. 1/21 at 11:30 AM, Monroe's Restaurant, 1603 Commonwealth Ave., more information).

 

The Small Business Development Center (SBDC) will host their monthly Small Business Roundtable (Tues. 1/21, noon, AEDP/SBDC Offices, 625 N. Washington St, Suite 400).   The topic for this free discussion will be 'Tune Up Your Branding for the New Year.'

 

The third Waterfront Community Meeting, part of the Waterfront Landscape and Flood Mitigation Community Meeting Series which began in October 2013, will be an interactive meeting with the public, the City, and the City's two consultant teams for the Waterfront Landscape and Flood Mitigation Design project. The consultants are The Olin Studio and URS Corporation, respectively and the meeting will provide a forum for the public to share its input and comments on draft refinements to the illustrative concept design which depicts parks, public space and flood mitigation measures and which is included in the approved Waterfront Small Area Plan(Tues. 1/21 at 6:30 PM, George Washington Middle School Cafeteria, 1005 Mt. Vernon Ave).

 

The next meeting of the City-manager appointed Study Group on Business Tax Reform, organized to investigate proposals that might be useful in promoting economic growth, will take place this week. Information about the group's work, as well as agenda's can be found on the group's webpage (Weds. 1/22 at 6:00 PM, City Hall, Sister Cities Meeting Room 1101).

 

The Alexandria Economic Development Partnership Board of Directors will hold their regular Board meeting (Thurs. 1/23 at 8:00 AM, 625 N. Washington Street, Suite 400).

 

The Alexandria Chamber of Commerce Chairman's Community Reception will be held this week, and is designed to unite area residents, employers, cultural organizations and political representatives as well as celebrate our community and introduce the new Chairman of the Board and the 2014 Officers and Board members (Thurs. 1/23 at 5:30 PM, United Way Worldwide headquarters, 701 N. Fairfax St., registration required).

 

City Council will hold their monthly public hearing where items of interest include consideration of a Development Special Use Permit for the Cummings Hotelthe first hotel under consideration in the Waterfront Small Area district  (Sat. 1/25 at 9:30 AM, City Hall, Council Chambers).
