But hey, they wrote 'Hollywood breaks' into the amnesty bill!
Don't stop there
Congressional Republicans are working on their OWN version of Amnesty!
Congressman Peter Roskam's response to our inquiries:
As a nation of immigrants, our country welcomes those who have obtained lawful permanent residence, along with legitimate trade and travel. In fact, every year we bring in more legal immigrants than every other country in the world combined. Unfortunately, a large number of individuals are guilty of visa overstay. Among the 11 million undocumented immigrants estimated to be living in the United States, roughly 40% came through a legal process and have overstayed their permitted time allowance in the U.S. When unauthorized individuals receive taxpayer-funded benefits, it is a financial strain on local and state governments, and unfair for citizens who have rightfully earned these benefits.
I support utilizing programs like E-Verify to confirm employment eligibility. More than 411,000 employers nationwide currently participate in this program. Last Congress, I cosponsored the Legal Workforce Act, legislation which would have required all employers to use E-Verify in order to ensure eligibility of job applicants for employment.
As you may know, there are bipartisan working groups in the House and the Senate which are working to advance fundamental immigration reform. The House Judiciary Committee has launched a series of hearings that will examine ways we can improve our current immigration policies. While I am not a Member of this Committee, I am a member of the Congressional Immigration Reform Caucus, which is committed to enforcing U.S. immigration laws, restoring border control, and reforming our immigration system to enhance its integrity. During the course of the 113th Congress, I will work with my colleagues to make sure that reforms focused on law and order and enhanced security remain a top priority.
Again, thank you for your correspondence. If you have any additional questions or comments, please feel free to call my office at (202) 225-4561.
Very truly yours, Peter J. Roskam Member of Congress
