Qwynton Evans the December Outstanding Sigma For Gamma Sigma Sigma Chapter
Bro. Evans - Die Hard Vikings Fan

Recently "We Rise" had a chance to catch up with Bro. Qwynton Evans ( aka "Q" ) and wanted to find out how he became a Vikings fan, what has been some hardship he's overcome and what he would like the chapter to accomplish in 2015.

Q: Its been said that you're a die hard Vikings fan, given their record in the past few seasons, what has kept you such a loyal fan?

A: I was watching ESPN one day as a kid and they were talking about the Purple People Eaters. After seeing, that I started watching the Vikings. I really fell for the team watching Daunte Culpepper and Randy Moss on the field. The rich history with the team keeps me loyal.

Q: What has been a challenging situation in your life that you've overcame.

A: Transitioning from getting kicked out of college and coming back home. Had to reevaluate myself and my life. Needed to rededicate myself to doing what needed to be done. Eventually I returned to the same school and earned my degree in Criminal Justice with a minor in Psychology from the University of Southern Mississippi.

Q: What would you like to see happen within the chapter in 2015?

A: In 2015, I'd like to see growth within the chapter for our community. Our chapter needs to be more recognizable. For example, we have two colleges here in Stockton. By using UOP and Delta College, we can be more interactive getting to know those students, and being more involved with the activities happening at both campuses.

Remembering George Washington Carver. A Scientist Dedicated to Service For Humanity

Bro. George Washington Carver lived a very fruitful life. Being born into slavery and growing up as an orphan with his brother Jim, he spent most of his time gazing at the plants around him and taking up a unique interest in the world of science. Bro. Carver attended Iowa State University and received his B.S. in Botany and later received his Masters as well. Several years later Bro. Carver joined Booker T. Washington at Tuskegee Institute running the Agriculture Department for 47 years.
