Last January I rolled out the 2020 Vision:

...to elevate connect-grow-serve
from a tagline to a lifestyle.

Last spring we worked on elevating SERVE, with 90 people stepping up to serve at Cedarbrook.

This fall we are turning our focus to elevating GROW, seeking to get more intentional about helping Cedarbrookers experience a spiritual growth spurt.

How Do We Define Growth? Many churches like to talk about their growing attendance. I have to admit, I enjoy seeing our seats filled each week. But that's really meaningless to me if the people in the seats aren't getting to know God or becoming more like Jesus. This is the growth we are wanting to see more and more.

How to Grow Your Faith: If you missed my first two messages in September, I've been looking at how to get "unstuck" spiritually and start growing again. You can listen to them here: Grow logo
I'll finish up this Sunday by looking at four stages of growth that God wants to move us through. I hope you'll be there!

Jim Walker is in Congo This Week: Please keep Jim Walker, and his medical team, in your prayers this week. They will be busy training nurses who serve at the clinic we support in Congo.

New Prayer Meeting on First Sunday of the Month! We are starting a short and sweet prayer meeting on the first Sunday of the month between services in the Community Room. Read about it below.

Maybe you know someone in an unhealthy church that is looking for some answers. This book might give them the direction they need. I have ten on order to sell in the lobby. Let me know if you want one.

...let's get intentional about growing!

p.s. I will be sending out a special invitation to hear Michelle Sanchez, an expert in the area of spiritual growth. She's coming to offer workshops on October 6 and 7, then speaking at both services on October 8th. Look for the invite on Saturday. Read an article about Michelle here.

Jim Walker Returns to Congo
Learn more about the clinic we support

The Evangelical Covenant Church has a special project in Congo, Africa where we support over 100 medical clinics. Cedarbrook supports one of these clinics at $10,000 per year.

Dr. Jim Walker, from Cedarbrook, is a part of the overseeing team for all the clinics. He and his daughter, Julie Malyon, visited there together a few years ago and they will return on September 16th to offer their assistance and training to the clinics.

The Congo is a war torn country. There is considerable political unrest. Jim and Julie's visit comes with a great deal of risk, yet they feel compelled to go. Our job, is to support them in prayer. I hope you will do that. We look forward to hearing their stories.

Please visit this link to see the exact location of the clinic we support . Click on the interactive map, expand it, and look for the yellow tags. We support the  Takaya Clinic, in the Bogose Nubea health zone.

The New Testament Challenge  a community Bible experience
Starts October 1

This fall we will take eight weeks to read our way through the New Testament with sermons and videos to support our reading.

In addition to daily readings, video, and weekly sermons, we will offer 15 circles for people to discuss what they've read that week.

Want to get a headstart? Read through this website to download a free e-book of the New Testament or a free audio version.

Email Pastor Remy to sign up for the daily reading.

You Can Help With Hurricane Harvey Relief

We have been working with Living Water Int'l for years to help in digging wells and bringing fresh water to villages in Central America. Living Water Int'l offices are located in Houston.

We recently received a request for financial help for staff members who suffered extensive damage to their homes. Here is part of a note from one of their staff members:

There were several staff members whose homes were severely damaged due to 6 feet of water in their homes. We have an internal way to financially assist these staff members by giving directly to their needs at  www.water.cc/donate/harvey. Jodi Mahoney, LWI staff

Cedarbrookers already gave $1200 to Harvey relief at a recent service, but this is a very personal way to help people that we've worked with to bring fresh water to others in need.
