School's Out For Summer!
It's hard to believe Memorial Day is this weekend, but the last day of school has come and gone and the rising temperatures are proof that summer is officially here.

As many know, United Way of Southeast Missouri works closely with the school districts in their four-county service area. Donors help provide funding to a variety of educational programs, including student emergency funds, after school mentoring, and literacy programs. United Way funded partners work diligently to provide a safe, healthy and educational environment for youth every school year.

Their work doesn't stop after the last bell though. Organizations such as The Salvation Army, Boys and Girls Clubs of Southeast Missouri and the Cape Girardeau and Scott County 4-H programs provide summer camp opportunities to ensure the basic needs of students are met year round.

4 United Ways You Can Volunteer!
Donating my time to organizations was a huge part of
my time at Southeast Missouri State. In fact, over the course of four years I probably volunteered at more than half of United Way's partner agencies! There's always something going on with our funded partners, and we do our best to update you all with their volunteer opportunities every month in our  newsletter.

While I love promoting our partner programs and the incredible work they do, I've recently realized we've been neglecting our own volunteer opportunities. Did you know United Way of Southeast Missouri has 4 different committees you can serve on? That's right, 4 unique and hands-on opportunities for you to get involved.

The best part? We're seeking new volunteers for these committees right now!

Thank you to everyone who registered for the
Procter & Gamble "Who Do You Run For?" 5K!

Due to weather conflicts, the run has been rescheduled for Saturday, June 10th at the Jackson Civic Center. Registration will begin at 7:30 and the race will officially start at 8:30.
If you have any questions please feel free to contact Kristin in our office or click here to register.
United Way Seeking
Members for Read to Excel
United Way of Southeast Missouri (UWSEMO) is pleased to announce it is the recipient of a two-member grant from the DeltaCorps Regional Authority, a division of AmeriCorps. The grant provides two members for a new program, Read to Excel (R2X), an expansion of United Way's valuable Read to Succeed program in the Cape Girardeau Public Schools.

Read to Succeed began at Blanchard Elementary in 2011 and now provides volunteer tutoring to new readers in kindergarten and first grade in all Cape elementary schools. DeltaCorps will fund two members to extend the program into grades 2-6. The grants in the form of human resources, rather than financial resources, were awarded to nonprofit organizations that have already distinguished themselves as
influential advocates for change in the Delta region.

Interested applicants can learn more about the position and apply here.
Thank you to our Corporate Investors!
