Sierra SBDC Helping Truckee Entrepreneurs Access Funding

SBC's Sierra Small Business Development Center (SBDC) is working with applicants in the Town of Truckee Community Development Block Grant program to secure capital funding for their small businesses. These Truckee entrepreneurs are applying for funds through the CDBG program to grow and expand their existing small businesses. The loans have flexible terms and low interest rates and are designed to increase the economic vitality of microenterprises in Truckee.

The Sierra SBDC is excited to be preparing loan application packages and coaching these small business owners to achieve success. If you or anyone you know in Truckee is interested in a CDBG loan, contact Jess Carr at [email protected] to learn more about the eligibility requirements for this program.

Sierra CAMP Steering Committee Advocating for Rural Sierra Communities

The Sierra Climate Adaptation and Mitigation Partnership (Sierra CAMP)Steering Committee is officially up and running!  The primary role of the Steering Committee is to direct Sierra CAMP's policy strategy for increasing State investment in the health of our region's forests and watershed, as well as other pressing climate adaptation needs.

Together, we've acted through  twelve comment letters  to State agencies and the Legislature and are attending hearings on a weekly basis. We're also organizing two upcoming events in August: a California Energy Commission public workshop on energy efficiency funding for disadvantaged rural communities on August 22nd from 5-7pm at Lake Tahoe Community College (stay tuned for more information), as well as a  webinar on California Forest & Climate Policy  on August 29th from 12:30-2pm.

SBC Climate Planning Team to Present to Town of Truckee Potential for Climate Action Plan

SBC's Climate Planning team will be presenting their work on the Town's Greenhouse Gas Inventory to the Truckee Town Council on Aug. 9th at 6pm. SBC and Town of Truckee staff have been working closely on the baseline inventory for a potential Climate Action Plan and hope to gain the support of the community and direction from the Town Council on next steps at this meeting.

In order to achieve the ambitious goals and actions required to mitigate the worst impacts of climate change, it will take full community input and action. Please come out to voice your support for this important planning effort. For more information, please contact Jill Sanford at [email protected].
