What's Up at the Custom House - March 26, 2017
Come'on, let's take a
Wednesday, April 12, at 10 AM.
The Black Hawk is donating an exciting trip to view the many seals who winter off New London. It's a fund raiser for NLMS.
The seals are actually Maine natives who make Long Island Sound their winter home.
Bring your camera and binoculars. We'll bring the hot chocolate and cookies!
It's a 2 1/2 -3 hours round-trip.
We'll provide complete details next week.
Save the Date! Our Seal Watch takes place during school break week, Wednesday, April 12, at 10 AM.

With our impressive architecture, tented courtyard and downtown waterside location, we are a venue unlike any other in New London.
Offering a number of adaptable spaces and nearby parking, the Custom House Maritime Museum provides the ideal setting for any party, corporate event, or private occasion.

Spaces for hire include the intimate accessible Jibboom Room, large Crawford Gallery above, or outdoor Tented Courtyard.

Sunday, March 26 at 2 p.m., artist John Sargent will talk about his work and Chris Cryder, of Save the Sound, will speak about legal issues related to the possible sale of Plum Island -- at the Custom House. Admission is by donation.

We have openings for docents at the Custom House.
Would you be able to help on Thursdays or Fridays between 1 and 5 PM?
If you are friendly, enjoy history, and like interacting with visitors, then being a docent is a good fit for you. Roger Clements has been busy creating do-it-yourself models of beloved local landmarks. He's already done the Custom House, City Hall, and Nathan Hale School House. His kits are for sale at the MUSEUM SHOP.

Several architects examined the custom house Tuesday -- they're considering their response to our RFP to replace the custom house roof.
The architectural study / drawings will be funded by two years of CDBG awards plus a matching grant from the Connecticut Trust for Historic Preservation.
