As Thanksgiving approaches and we reflect on what we're most grateful for, I think of our entire PSHH family -  residents, staff, board and countless community supporters - who work together towards improving our local communities. This commitment we all have made to creating more affordable housing opportunities on the Central Coast is something I'm incredibly thankful for, and extremely proud to be a part of with all of you.

The holiday season is all about friends and family coming together, and is a time of the year when our team feels especially proud of what we do. It is a truly special feeling to know that, thanks to our collective efforts, more people in our community have a place to call home, and a safe, inviting space to spend time with their loved ones.

But there's still work to be done, and for every person we have helped, there are so many others who are in need of our services. If you feel called to make a difference this holiday season, we encourage you to visit our website at pshhc.org and make a donation to support the critical programs which serve our residents.

Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family. We are beyond thankful for your support.

PSHH Residents Making a Connection
Streaming videos and sharing photos might be the first things that come to mind when you think about having internet access, but the reality is that the internet impacts just about all facets of our daily lives. Regardless of one's age, ethnicity, cultural background and economic status, everyone from young students to seniors benefits greatly from the ability to get online.

Thanks to a State program called AB 1299, and the generosity of Peoples' Self-Help Housing supporters, all PSHH residents living in affordable housing properties will soon have free internet access.  Click here to read the full article.

Raising the Roof!
PSHH President & CEO John Fowler met with Assemblymember David Chiu and other local influencers at  the California Coalition for Rural Housing Conference in Pacific Grove, CA.  The Raise the Roof: Rural Voices for Housing Justice Summit created an opportunity for decision-makers and advocates to brainstorm and share resources that will help continue the fight to make housing more affordable for Californians.

Jardin de las Rosas Grand Opening in Santa Barbara
On December 7, PSHH staff, supporters, elected officials and the community will come together for the grand opening of Jardin de las Rosas, a 40-unit affordable housing apartment complex located at 510 N. Salsipuedes St. in Santa Barbara.
During this ceremony, the naming of the Michael Towbes Community Center and the Jeanette Duncan Learning Center, located on the JDLR campus, will be commemorated.  A lottery drawing, held earlier this year determined the order qualified applicants would be processed to determine residency at JDLR. Casas de Los Carneros Apartments Lottery
The new Casas de Los Carneros Apartments are scheduled to be ready for new residents in the Spring of 2018. On October 25, a lottery drawing was held to determine the order in which pre-applicants for the 70 units would be processed.

Karina was one of the 623 people in the pre-applicant pool, and the first applicant present at the event to have her name called. Congratulations, Karina!

Employee Spotlight: Kaavya S. Puttagunta
Meet Kaavya, newest YEEP Educator at PSHH!

Kaaya graduated from the University of Michigan last Spring, where she studied Spanish, Gender and Race, and Biology. While she hopes to eventually attend medical school and practice community-based medicine, her intent is to spend the next few years working in the non-profit industry to learn more about promoting social justice.

PSHH's holistic approach and the connection between health, education and housing, was a determining factor for her in joining the PSHH and her move to the West Coast this September.  Kaaya is the Lead Educator for the Riverview ASES site in Guadalupe, and we are delighted to have her on our team!
