---->Slam Nuba
: Based in Denver, CO, the Slam Nuba collective of artists performs poetry throughout the nation, as well as teaches workshops locally in and around Colorado and the region. Since its inception, Slam Nuba and its members have consistently ranked among the highest in the nation in competitions. The mission of Slam Nuba is to promote the creation and performance of poetry and cultivate literary activities and engage community, focused on the power of the written and spoken word.

Art with Graficomovilive
: The Graficomovil is a converted 1948 Ford truck (similar to a food truck) that is decorated, visually appealing from the outside by itself with "printmaking style" (Black and white) murals that display social and environmental justice messages, designed by Mexican print maker Artemio Rodriguez. The van opens up and features more samples of Artemio's work. The Graficomovil can be activated with a printmaking art workshop that engages young and old to use stamps designed by the artist to create their own art that will advocate for environmental stewardship.

Cafe Cultura is currently in our 3rd year teaching an Advanced Creative Writing class for the CU Upward Bound Program
. The students are producing some amazing poetry that will grace the stage at our July 8th Art in the Park as well as their book. Below are 2 excerpts:
"I am proud to be Dine.
I am the traditional corn,
I come from the harvesting fields of our ancestors.
As a kernel,
I am in the womb.
As a stem,
I am a child.
As the corn grows,
I age.
The roots and leaves are my knowledge of my culture.
The tassel and pollen is old age.
I am a representation of life.
Tadidiin k'ee atiin bikaa'go
Nizhonigo yishaah do."
-Ranisha
"I hear words coming from little ones,
knowing I am making a difference in their lives, knowing I am their idol.
When I get the courage
to finally taking the blindfold off, I see something different and maybe it is because my eyes are trying to adjust to the light.
I see what I've accomplished, and see what needs to be done.
Now that the blindfold is off, it is my turn to take charge of where I go.
Responsibility, options, and courage are the ingredients
that make me who I am."
-Dallas

Xpress Yourself Spoken Word/Poetry Workshops for Youth (#XpressYourself) |
We have worked with schools and organizations throughout Colorado to give underserved youth an opportunity to express themselves.
If you are interested
in having Cafe Cultura present at your school or organization, feel free to contact us. Our
basic version
is a
one time, 1 to 2 hour
session
. We have used this
highly engaging
and
culturally relevant
workshop structure for over a decade to encourage Chicana/o and Native youth to use spoken word to give voice to our stories of love, struggle, injustice, and celebration. They serve to
support Language Arts curriculum (4th through 12th grades)
. Workshop structure was designed by a spoken word artist with 4 years experience teaching at the middle and high school level with contributions from other poets and youth advocates. Click here for more information.
