Dear Friends,

Many of us stayed up until the early hours of the morning to hear the results of the elections. While there are moments to celebrate - the quadrupling of the number of women of color in the Senate and four states passed measures increasing the minimum wage - we also saw huge losses including the victory of a presidential candidate who has attacked the rights and needs of women, immigrants, Muslims, people of color and LGBT people.

This election has exposed what we already knew - that racism continues to be a huge issue in this country and that until we can dismantle white supremacy communities of color will continue to be either ignored or outright denied equal participation or dignity in a system that thrives on our oppression.

Women of color turned out. We made our voices heard at the polls. Now we face troubling days ahead, but we will do what we always do - we will speak up, organize, tell our stories and push for change. We have led our communities in the fight for health and rights throughout the course of history. We have worked to build strong families in the face of ignorance, hate, and structural oppression. We will continue to do so. We will resist.

Sincerely,

Monica Simpson, Executive Director
