WELCOME 2015!

It's a new year!  Time for positive thoughts and great ideas..

We found a few anecdotes that highlight some "out of the box" thinking by newspapers and printers around the globe.

PUT THE KIDS IN CHARGE!

A newspaper in Norway decided to celebrate the Norwegian "Children's Day" by arranging for students from three local schools to research and create ALL the content for the edition of their newspaper for that day.  Working in partnership with their "Newspapers in Education" program, students wrote articles on timely subjects, some local, some worldwide.

UP THE INCENTIVE

To celebrate the paper's 40th anniversary, our customer, Kerry's Eye (Tralee, Ireland), combined their efforts      with a local car dealer to provide a free year's lease on an electric car.  The contest entry form was printed in the paper, as well as being promoted through Twitter & Facebook.

ENCOURAGE A BREAK FROM ELECTRONICS

A Danish newspaper has created supplements just for children...called "Kids News".  Parents are encouraged that it gives their children a chance to quietly focus apart from their electronics.   Read more on this program.

MORE THAN JUST A CONTENT CHANGE

Trust the French to be creative enough to create a newspaper that feels more like a map in your hands, yet becomes so intriguing that it is actually attractive.   Read about this unique take on "news".

4-D EXPERIENCE

A paper in Ceylon included an ad on it's last page that required 3-D glasses (included in the issue) as well as an additional element to make it a "4-D" experience. Read more here.

INCREASE YOUR VOCABULARY:  Marginalia

Have you ever written notes in the margin of a book?  Those notes actually have their own name: Marginalia.  Now the word makes sense, doesn't it?

A BETTER BUG KILLER

A Sri Lankan paper decided to tackle the problem of mosquito-spread Dengue fever by physically using their newspaper.  But it involved much more than swatting mosquitos with the paper. (Click the picture)

CHARGING FOR THE NICHE

After surveying their readers, a Canadian paper tried charging extra for issues that included requested niche items...a plan which exceeded their "most optimistic expectations".
