A Message From Mr. Stoops
It was delightful to welcome our angels back to school last week! I hope everyone enjoyed a Christ-filled holiday season and is experiencing an exciting New Year. There are many events planned for students and parents in the coming month.
This afternoon, our annual
Spelling Bee will take place for students in grades 5-8. Additionally, on
January 17 at 1:00 in the PC Gym, students in grades 4-8 will test their
geography skills in our school wide competition. I am always amazed at how well our students perform in these competitions!
is scheduled for January 28
! We encourage all current and prospective families to attend this showcase event! Please encourage any family member, friend, co-worker, etc. who may be interested in Guardian Angels School to also attend. You can help us spread the word by sharing our
. We will also have yard signs in the gathering space after Masses this weekend. Please consider taking one, or a few, to display in your yard or at your business.
The Open House will kick off Catholic Schools Week, which is our devoted time to celebrate our wonderful school and faith through many exciting events! Full details for all activities planned for the week will be communicated in next week's Herald. During Catholic Schools Week, on
January 31, we will celebrate
Grandparents Day. We will begin with Mass at 9:00, and grandparents will visit classrooms immediately following Mass. Additional details for this event will be included in our Catholic Schools Week communication next week. However, please mark your calendars and begin to invite grandparents to this special day.
A major piece to the One Faith, One Hope, One Love campaign from the Archdiocese of Cincinnati, which many of you generously gave, is additional
for families who financially qualify. This year, 2 million dollars will be distributed to families of elementary school students for the 2018-2019 school year. To learn more and apply, please visit
All families who plan to apply for financial assistance from Guardian Angels must first apply for assistance from this source, so that additional assistance could be available for your family.
Last year, over $26,000 was given to Guardian Angels families from the Catholic Education Foundation Tuition Assistance Fund.
Finally, our annual
8th grade vs. seminarians basketball game is scheduled for this Friday,
January 12 at 1:30 in the P.C. Gym. We are honored to host Archbishop Schnurr, who will be in attendance to watch the competition and help celebrate vocations. All parents are invited to attend.
I look forward to seeing community members throughout all these exciting events and activities!
Norovirus Notice From The Nurse's Office
This is the time of year that the incidence of Norovirus tends to peak. We hope you will find this information to be a helpful resource for prevention, and if needed, in your decision of when the right to time to send your child back to school after a stomach bug.
Norovirus causes inflammation of the stomach or intestines or both. This is called acute gastroenteritis.
The most common symptoms include, diarrhea, throwing up, nausea, and stomach pain. Other symptoms include, fever, headache, and body aches.
A person usually develops symptoms 12 to 48 hours after being exposed to norovirus. Most people with norovirus illness get better within 1 to 3 days, although they may remain contagious even after symptoms subside. If you have norovirus, you can feel extremely ill and throw up or have diarrhea many times a day. More information is attached.
Other information to consider:
Encourage children to sneeze in their elbow as they would a cold. The virus can be aerosolized in saliva if a child who has been vomiting returns to school the next day and sneezes or coughs.
Although the article quotes 60% alcohol in hand sanitizer kills norovirus, other literature suggests 70% alcohol is more effective. This includes brands like Purell "Advanced" hand sanitizer.
Encourage students to wash hands or use hand-sanitizer at aftercare or sports practices prior to eating snacks or handling balls. They can use it afterwards as well.
Thank you for helping to keep all of our Angels healthy!
Updated Websites Include Mobile Responsive Platform
If you have visited our website in the last couple weeks, you may have noticed it looks different. The school and parish sites have been updated to be mobile responsive. Our sites have been mobile friendly since the redesign in 2014 but the update means you have a fresh clean look at the sites when using your phones without losing any of the content options. About one-third of people visiting our school website, do so through a mobile device. That number jumps to more than half of visitors for our parish site.
We apologize if you've had any issues using our site since early December when the transition began; there are always a few kinks to work out before it is fully established.

Music Boosters Needs You
The Music Boosters is in need of some new boosters to support the music and theatre programs at Guardian Angels school. As you have heard at the Christmas concert, our band program is one of the best around. The program consistently is awarded OMEA and Honor Band accolades along with a Jazz Band group that this year was chosen to perform for the OMEA in Columbus! Also each year the theatre program puts on a quality spring musical that engages and enriches students and urges them to step a bit out of their comfort zone... all while having a blast!
The music boosters would love to welcome new members for the current year and looking to the future. Music Boosters meet 6 times a year. It does not require much time but the benefits the boosters provide to support the programs are immense!
We are an easy going group and meetings generally only last about an hour. Can you spare a little time to support these programs and help them continue to provide superior opportunities for our Angels? If you are interested please contact
